Legendary brand chief designer leaves Jaguar after 20 years

After spending the last 20 years of his career at Jaguar, chief designer Ian Callum announced in 2019 that he was leaving the company to "pursue other design projects". The move opens up a world of opportunity for the icon, who has also previously worked with Aston Martin and Ford.

Reflecting on his time at Jaguar, Callum said: "One of the highlights for me was the creation of the XF because it marked the beginning of a new era of Jaguar's transition from tradition to modern design - it was a major turning point in our history."

Callum will continue to work with Jaguar as a consultant, while day-to-day design duties will be taken over by Creative Design Director Julian Thompson.

During his time at Jaguar, Callum helped propel the company into the 21st century. He was hired as director of design in 1999 when the company was obsessed with recreating the past. His first modern design was the XK, which he followed with the S-Type and F-Type.

The F-Type, in particular, meant a lot to Callum: "Developing the F-TYPE was a dream come true for me." Where his dreams will take him next, one can only guess, but the results will undoubtedly be wonderful.
