GM is blocking the GMSV brand for Australia! From Chevrolet Silverado to Corvette Stingray: this is how it will work after the HSV era

GM has officially registered the GMSV trademark in Australia.

GMSV is finally confirmed for launch in Australia, with GM in the US filing a trademark to replace HSV and a new logo with the Australian government.

The move would eventually spell the end of the HSV brand in Australia as the customer aspects of the 33-year-old business are expected to be rebranded while the Walkinshaw Group continues to work on reengineering left hand drive vehicles. for our market.

Although details have yet to be confirmed, we expect that, at least initially, the GMSV brand will be in charge of the Chevrolet Silverado, and the talented Walkinshaw group will continue to re-manufacture left-hand drive to right-hand drive vehicles in Victoria. .

We also expect at least some HSV dealerships that are currently independent of Holden and GM to also rebrand as GMSV in the near future.

“The Walkinshaw Group has a rich history of bringing interesting vehicles to market and we will continue to do so in the near future,” a spokesperson recently said. AutoGuide.

“We have just launched the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which we are very pleased with, and we will continue to bring interesting vehicles to the market in the near future.”

The move essentially means that Walkinshaw will become a contract partner for GMSV, which is expected to be owned and operated by GM in the US.

A protracted question, of course, what about the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? Given that the right-hand drive car has already been approved at the factory, Walkinshaw will not be preparing it.

Instead, GM is expected to supply the car directly, most likely through the GMSV dealer network, straight from the factory. Holden has already confirmed the Corvette for our market, but GM's decision to shut down the iconic brand here has put those launch plans in doubt. But as the cars leave the factory with the steering wheel on our side, it's still likely to arrive - though it must be said that GM, Holden and HSV have yet to confirm the model's launch.

As previously reported in CarsGuide, The Corvette has long been expected to lead the GMSV lineup.

At a press conference announcing the end of Holden production in Australia and New Zealand, Holden Interim Chairman and Managing Director Christian Akilina told us that "a possible business is in the works with GM Specialty Vehicles."

“Today we cannot announce anything about this, but there will be some opportunity to save some employees about this,” he added.

Then GM Senior Vice President of International Operations Julian Blissett added, “Obviously we are in talks with our partners to make this happen.

“We have made significant progress so far… but the details of what product and how we are bringing to market have yet to be confirmed.”

But with GM in the US confirming ownership of the name, all systems seem to work.
