GM to recall almost 7 million pickup trucks from the US market due to fatal failures of its airbags: their repair will cost about $1,200 million

A defect in these airbags bankrupted Takata and now GM is responsible for paying for all repairs.

General Motors must recall and repair 5.9 million trucks and SUVs in the United States, as well as another 1.1 million similar models in the rest of the world.

This recall is for dangerous Takata airbags.

said changes cost the company approximately $1,200 billion., which is equivalent to a third of their annual net income.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has directed GM to recall and repair some vehicles with Takata airbags because they could rupture or explode in the event of a crash, endangering occupant safety.

Vehicles that will be affected by this recall range from 2007 to 2014 with the following models:

– Chevrolet Silverado

– Chevrolet Silverado HD

– Chevrolet Lavina

- Chevrolet Tahoe

- Chevrolet Suburban

– GIS Sierra

– HMS Sierra HD

– HMS Yukon

- GMC Yukon XL

– Cadillac Escalade

GM has previously petitioned NHTSA to prevent the recall, saying it does not believe Takata inflators in affected vehicles pose a safety risk to its customers.

that none of the inflators in the affected vehicles exploded during the tests.

However, the NHTSA, for its part, explained that its testing "concluded that the GM inflators in question are at risk of the same type of explosion after prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity as other recalled Takata inflators."

Defective Takata airbags have triggered the largest safety recall in history as inflators can explode with excessive force, sending deadly shrapnel into the cabin. To date, these Takata airbags have killed 27 people worldwide, including 18 in the United States, which is why the NHTSA doesn't want them used on the roads. Around 100 million inflators have already been recalled worldwide.

The automaker has 30 days to give NHTSA a suggested timeline to notify recalled vehicle owners and replace airbags.

If you have one of these cars, take it in for repairs and avoid a fatal accident. Replacement bags will be completely free.
