GMC begins to roll the first Hummer electric vehicles off the assembly line

The GMC Hummer EV is now rolling off the assembly line, ready to hit dealerships, and it does so with next-generation drivetrain technology that delivers unparalleled off-road capability. It also offers exceptional performance on the road and an immersive driving experience.

A little over a year after it became known, the first production truck rolled off the Factory Zero assembly line in Detroit.

First unit auctioned

The first copy, Interstellar White Edition 1 with VIN 001, sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction earlier this year for $2.5 million. In this case, the proceeds went to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money and "builds affordable, mortgage-free smart homes for hardest-hit veterans and provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and the families of the first rescuers who died in the line of duty." The tunnel to the towers was built in honor of firefighter Steven Siller, who died saving others during the 11/XNUMX attacks.

1,000 horsepower super truck

As the first production vehicle to use GM's Ultium electric platform, the new Hummer will be a complete 1,000 horsepower super truck. Notable features include a 329-mile range, four-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, GM's Super Cruise ADAS, and a superbly named "Watts to Freedom" launch control system that is said to propel the Hummer from 0 to 60 mph by about in three seconds.

When my colleague Peter Holderith recently drove the prototype, he called it "the best Hummer" and "definitely the best and most reliable way to resurrect it today", praising the electric truck's technology that allows it to excel both on and off the track. Road. Let's hope the production version continues to live up to expectations.
