Cooking for Kids: Birthday Snack Ideas

Hello! My name is Tosya Gendzwill, I am almost 10 years old. For more than a year I have been cooking more and more by myself. Sometimes I do something simple with my head, and sometimes I cook from books. Together with my mother, we want to share with you culinary ideas and recipes - we will write them so that you understand them (sometimes I don’t understand recipes from my mother’s books). I would like you to try making your own. It's really cool! Cooking is fun, and it's best to have fun together. Will you join us?

Quick and easy birthday snacks

After all, you can arrange birthdays, invite friends home and have fun not only in the yard. I have some ideas for you on what to cook for a birthday, movie night or a casual evening with friends.

When I have a guest at home, we usually get hungry after a while. Then we cook something to eat that we like. The two of you can have a great time in the kitchen. When there are more guests, I usually prepare food in advance. It's hard to get along in the kitchen when there are too many people who want to oil themselves and no one wants to clean up.

Usually, birthdays are full of sweets and not a lot of simple food. If you are very tired of playing bananas or cubes, you will want to eat. I always look around the table for something good. I love pizza because it tastes good even cold. I also like salty rolls with sandwich paste or fillings, pierced with a long wooden stick. They are a bit like burgers and a bit like fancy sandwiches. I myself like to cook rolls with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and guacamole. I also like everything that is stuffed on long wooden sticks. Skewers with mozzarella and tomatoes or fruit look great and are a lot of fun. You can also do everything yourself. I will give you my simple recipes.

small pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pizza flour
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • 5 tablespoons of water
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, sugar and oregano
  • Garniry: mozzarella / pepperoni / basil

To make pizza you will need: 2 bowls, 1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1 glass, 1 rolling pin, oven and baking paper. Ingredients: 1 packet dry yeast or 1 tablespoon simple yeast, 2 tablespoons sugar, a cup of pizza flour, 1 cup warm water, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. For the sauce, you will need 1 small can of tomato paste, 5 tablespoons water, 4 tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, a pinch of sugar, and 1 tablespoon dried oregano. Pizza toppings: 2 mozzarella balls or 1 pack of mozzarella flakes, 1 pack of pepperoni, salami or ham and whatever you like (maybe olives, maybe pineapple, maybe anchovies, maybe fresh basil leaves).

Let's start with the cake. Attention! You will get your hands dirty.

Put the yeast, sugar, flour, water and salt into bowls. Knead the dough until it becomes homogeneous and soft. This takes about 5 minutes. To do this, you can use a planetary mixer, but not a conventional one, as for whipped cream. When the dough is soft and pulls away from your hands, cover the bowl with a clean cloth and leave to rest for 1 hour.

Meanwhile, prepare the sauce: In a bowl, combine the tomato paste with water, olive oil, salt, sugar and oregano. Such a thin mass must be formed.

Prepare the pizza topping: you can cut the ham into smaller pieces, remove the pineapple from the juice and cut into pieces, wash the basil.

The pizza dough should rise well. Take them out of the bowl and divide them into 4 pieces. Take a baking sheet and put baking paper on it. Put one piece of pizza dough on it. Roll them into a thin round cake. Remove the plate of paper and place it on the countertop. Do the same with the remaining 3 pieces of dough. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees.

Brush each pizza with tomato sauce. Add mozzarella slices and whatever toppings you like. We put the baking sheet in the oven and bake the first pizza until golden brown. Repeat with the next. This homemade pizza served at room temperature is delicious.

Sandwiches pierced with a toothpick

To make these sandwiches, you will need small kaisers, which can be bought at some stores. If it is not possible to buy small buns, buy large ones and divide them into 4 parts.

Brush each bun with butter and top with a slice of washed iceberg lettuce, a slice of cheese, a slice of pickled cucumber, and a tomato. Pierce with a long wooden toothpick in the very center. On top of this toothpick, you can stick a piece of paper with a funny inscription or picture.

Easy Egg Pate - Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 melted cheese cube
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic

If you love sandwich spreads, make egg bun spread: hard boil 4 eggs (place eggs in cold water, cover, bring water and eggs to a boil and turn off heat, but leave eggs covered in hot water for 10 minutes ). Clean the eggs. Add 1 cube of melted cheese (whichever you prefer; I like melted gouda the best) and 2 heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise. Use a fork to mash the pasta. If you like the taste of garlic, you can add 1 clove of crushed garlic to it. Some people add diced ham to this pasta. You need to first spread this paste on a bun, then put lettuce and tomato on it. If you put pasta on a salad, the whole roll will start to fall apart.

home wraps

Composition:

  • A glass of flour
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon cold butter
  • ½ cup warm water.
  • Philadelphia cheese
  • Iceberg lettuce
  • Avocado
  • a tomato

Usually, the wraps are made from store-bought tortillas. Recently, my friend's mom taught me how to do body wraps. They are simple and delicious. You need to mix a cup of wheat flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of cold butter, cut into small pieces, and 1/2 cup of warm water. Mix all the ingredients by hand until they form into a soft dough. Cover the dough with a cloth and leave for a quarter of an hour. Then we divide them into 12 balls. Each is rolled out with a rolling pin into a very thin cake. Fry in a dry frying pan until golden brown. Turn over and fry on the other side. It's a lot more work than buying tortillas, but they are really tasty.

I spread Philadelphia cheese on each cake, put a little iceberg lettuce, a piece of avocado and a tomato. I wrap it like a pancake and wrap it in breakfast paper. Sometimes, instead of vegetables and fruits, I spread peanut butter on tortillas and add chopped bananas to them.

colorful skewers

Skewers are good because you can stuff anything on sticks. My favorite thing to do is to stuff them with small balls of mozzarella, small tomatoes and boiled tube pasta. I just put the tomato, mozzarella and pasta on the stick in turn. And so several times until half of the stick is filled with ingredients.

I also like sticks with a piece of cucumber, a cube of cheese (you need to buy a large piece of cheese and cut it with a knife into cubes the size of a Lego cube), a small tomato and a piece of bread on top. It's a bit like an upside down sandwich.

My favorite birthday dessert is watermelon hedgehog. I put half the watermelon on the plate, flesh side down. I cut the rest of the watermelon into large cubes. I also dice 2 peaches, 2 apples. I wash my grapes. I stuff fruit on a stick. I press all the sticks into a half of a watermelon on a plate and make a fruit hedgehog out of it.
