Govets wants to revive BMW C1 in electric version

Building on the technology developed in the BMW C1, Govecs intends to launch an electric scooter equipped with a helmet-free safety device. The launch is scheduled for 2021.

If the BMW C1 didn't have a long career, the idea was pretty good. Launched in 2000, the BMW C1 had a protection system that recreated the real interior to protect the user in the event of a fall. In combination with the safety arches and the mandatory wearing of a belt, this device provided the main advantage: the ability to avoid wearing a helmet. Almost 34.000 units were produced, the car was stopped in 2003.

In a recent press release, Govecs indicates that it has signed a licensing agreement with BMW to reclaim the rights and use technology developed for the C1. The goal of the German manufacturer is to release a scooter with the same philosophy, but in a fully electric version. In its press release, Govecs mentions the model available in L100e and L1e versions. Which suggests two options: the first in the equivalent of 3 cubic meters. See and second at 50.

In addition to the technical problem associated with the development of the model, the challenge is to obtain permission to use without a helmet. ” The upcoming GOVECS e-scooter model combines driving pleasure, comfort and maximum safety. Due to the huge market potential, we want to sell the product all over the world, both in the area of promising exchange concepts for big cities and in the area of consumers.  Said Thomas Grubel, CEO of GOVECS, who has yet to provide details on the model's specifications and performance.
