Dirt in the fuel system

Dirt in the fuel system As mileage increases, each engine loses its original performance and starts to burn more fuel. It happens, among other things, as a result of contamination of the fuel system, which requires periodic "cleaning". So, let's use cleaning fuel additives. The effects may pleasantly surprise us.

Susceptibility to pollutionDirt in the fuel system

The fuel system of any car is prone to contamination. As a result of temperature fluctuations, water falls out in the tank, which, when in contact with metal elements, leads to corrosion. The fuel system is designed to trap rust particles and other impurities that have entered the fuel. Some of them remain on the fuel pump grid, some go into the fuel filter. The role of this element is to filter and clean the fuel from impurities. However, not all of them will be caught. The rest go directly to the nozzles and over time begin to interfere with their work. Even without contamination, nozzle performance decreases over time. The last drop of fuel always remains, and when it dries, particles of coal remain. Modern designs try to eliminate this problem, but it is quite common in older vehicles.

As a result of nozzle contamination, the quality of atomization and atomization of fuel with air is reduced. Due to contamination, the needle cannot move freely, resulting in incomplete opening and closing. As a result, we are dealing with the phenomenon of "filler nozzles" - fuel supply even in the closed state. This leads to excessive combustion, smoking and uneven operation of the drive. In extreme cases, the nozzle needle can jam, which leads to the destruction of the head, pistons, valves, in other words, a costly overhaul of the engine.

Cleaning the nozzles

If the fuel system and injectors are dirty, you can try to work on your own or give the car to professionals. The main difference lies in the cost. We strongly discourage the use of household nozzle cleaning methods such as soaking in cleaning products. They are easy to break due to irreversible damage to the coil insulation or internal seals.

Home cleaning is the most reliable, but also the most expensive. In this case, the car must be delivered to the repair site. The service carried out there usually gives good results and positively affects the culture of the engine. However, we must be prepared for costs of several hundred PLN and a break in the use of the car.

Is a site visit always necessary? Using a fuel system cleaner can surprise and restore engine vitality. However, it is best to avoid the situation when it is necessary to regenerate the nozzles, and counteract it properly by arranging the supply system for a small cleaning procedure.

Prevention

Prevention is better than cure - this adage, which is known to apply to human health, fits perfectly with the car's power system. Appropriate preventive treatment will reduce the risk of serious failure.

Several times a year, products that clean the fuel system should be used, for example in the form of fuel additives. Ideally, these should be well-known and proven products, such as K2 Benzin (for petrol engines) or K2 Diesel (for diesel engines). We use them just before refueling.

Another product that can be used to clean the system is the K2 Pro Carburetor, Throttle and Injector Cleaner. The product is produced in the form of an aerosol can, sprayed into the tank before refueling.

Also, try not to operate on residual fuel. Before winter, add a water-binding additive and replace the fuel filter. Also, work on old fuel is not allowed. After 3 months of storage in the tank, the fuel begins to release compounds harmful to the system and injectors.

Vehicle power loss is a common occurrence in high mileage vehicles. This may be a signal that something bad is starting to happen to our car. The use of special additives that clean the fuel system will significantly reduce the likelihood of problems and can save the driver's pocket from unexpected repair costs. You should think about this the next time you fill up.
