Head 2 Head: 10 cars in Jay Leno's garage and Floyd Mayweather's 10 most disgusting rides

When it comes to automotive heavyweights, Jay Leno and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can trade blows all day. Jay has a wider selection of cars that date back to the dawn of the automotive industry, while Floyd Jr. objects to a stunning collection of modern supercars. Jay has rarely ever sold one of his cars, while Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a big fan of selling a car for profit or upgrading to something even faster.

Jay may have an old collection, but he's also a big fan of new cars. He's also not averse to updating his old classic to improve its handling. These two automotive heavyweights may have very different approaches to choosing and collecting cars, but one thing is for sure: they both have an insane, unquenchable passion for cars.

We'll take a look at some of the best cars from every collector and let you decide who will deliver the knockout punch. We also promise that from now on references to boxing will be kept to a minimum. So let's get to the first round...

20 Jay Leno

Jay has a much larger car collection in this comparison. This is partly due to the fact that he does not like to part with a car after he has bought it, and he has also been collecting cars for the better part of three decades. A hugely successful career has given him the opportunity to fulfill his wildest automotive dreams, and we'll start with a car rarely found in a multi-millionaire's garage.

This tiny car is a Fiat 500, the smallest and least powerful in our entire lineup, but it has found a place in Jay's garage due to its historical significance and fun-to-drive character. Although few people would see this small Italian car as a coveted car, it was incredibly popular in its time. With over 3.8 million units sold between 1957 and 1975, the Fiat 500 became the Italian equivalent of the Volkswagen Beetle.

Jay also owned a modern version of the car, a Fiat 500 Prima Edizione, which was the second car made in the USA. It was sold at auction for $350,000 back in 2012, with most of the proceeds going to charity. It was a rare occasion for Jay to let go of one of his cars, but it was for a good reason. He also reviewed the pint-sized version of the Abarth and liked its fun nature and amazing speed. Now for the more spicy stuff.

19 1936 Kord 812 Sedan

For those unfamiliar with the old classics, Cord was one of America's most cutting-edge designs in the 30s. Aimed at the affluent buyer who was looking for a smaller luxury car that still delivered the performance of larger alternatives.

The 4.7-liter V8 produced a very impressive 125 hp. and came with aluminum heads and a four speed gearbox. Later in production, an optional supercharger boosted power to 195 hp.

Front-wheel drive and independent front suspension added to the technological complexity; Unfortunately, the timing of its release (after the Great Depression) and lack of proper development meant that the Cord 812 was a commercial failure. The high price tag didn't help either. Of course, after 80 years, such things do not matter, as collectors call them "fads". And even standing still, this old sedan is a stunning piece of automotive art.

18 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

The debate over which car was the first true supercar is debatable as there are many worthy contenders. The 1954 300SL deserves this title like no other. At a time when maintaining a speed of 100 miles per hour on a flat road was a remarkable achievement, this German rocket could reach speeds of up to 160 miles per hour. The engine was a 218 liter inline six with 3.0 hp. with a fuel injection system, which was the first production car.

The gullwing doors were its most exciting exterior feature, and only 1,400 were built. The roadster version made do with the traditional opening doors, but had a reinforced rear suspension design that tamed the coupe's sometimes wayward handling. Jay's car is a coupe, an old racing car that he painstakingly restored, but not for crowded conditions, as Jay loves to drive his cars. Back in 2010, when he was interviewed by Popular Mechanics magazine about his car, he said, “We are restoring the mechanics and instrumentation on my Gullwing, but leaving the worn-out interior and exterior alone. I like it when I don't have to worry about freshly sprayed, pristine paint. It is very liberating if the screwdriver falls on the fender and leaves a trail. You don't go, 'Aaarrrggghhh! First chip! Refreshingly practical thinking.

17 1962 Maserati 3500 GTi

So, in terms of claiming to be the world's first supercar, another very strong contender is the Maserati 3500 GT. While the 300SL isn't quite the "road racer" it was claimed to be, the 3500GT offers similar performance with a stronger focus on luxury. It was sold from 1957 to 1964, and Jay's example is an untouched 1962 car.

You may notice a small "i" at the end of the name. This is because since 1960 fuel injection has been available on the 3.5-liter inline-six.

Power output was a creditable 235 hp, but the triple Weber carburetors used in standard cars were actually less finicky and produced more power. Jay didn't want to go back to carburetors, so his navy blue one had a completely redesigned injector.

The 3500GT may not have been as technologically advanced as the 300SL, but it looked, sounded and drove like a thoroughbred Italian car and is a perfect reminder of Maserati's golden age.

16 1963 Chrysler Turbine

To date, there are a total of three Chrysler turbines that are still in service. Jay is one of them. Initially, 55 cars were built, 50 of which were sent to pre-selected families for real-world testing. Imagine the excitement of being able to experience something as groundbreaking as a turbocharged car in the 60s. The views were also straight from the future, it would still be amazing to see today. Despite positive response from testers and extensive media coverage, the project was eventually disbanded.

High cost, the need to run on low quality diesel fuel (later models could run on almost any fuel, including tequila) and huge fuel consumption were the main reasons for its decline. However, the idea of an ultra-smooth powerplant with virtually no moving parts and minimal maintenance was very tempting, and Jay finally managed to get one of these rare cars from the Chrysler Museum in 2008. And no, it won't melt. the bumper of the car behind him; Chrysler developed a regenerative exhaust gas cooler that lowered the exhaust gas temperature from 1,400 degrees to 140 degrees. Genius things.

15 Lamborghini Miura

Right. So the "world's first supercar" argument continues, with many calling the Miura the true heir to the throne. He certainly has the ability to support his claims. The mid-chassis 3.9-liter V12 produced 350 hp, a serious figure for the time, and could reach speeds of up to 170 mph. However, early cars were quite scary at much lower speeds due to some aerodynamic issues, but this was mostly resolved in later versions.

Yellow P1967 Jay's 400 is one of the first cars. He acknowledges that the later 370 hp 400S. and 385SV with 400 hp. were better, but appreciates the cleanliness of its first generation model. The Miura lines were designed by a very young Marcello Gandini and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars ever to grace the roads.

14 Lamborghini Countach

Moving on to the next generation of supercars, we have the Countach, which has been featured in motoring magazines ever since the very first model wowed visitors at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. The first production models in 1974 didn't have the crazy aerodynamic add-ons that most people associate with this model, but those angular lines were another excellent Gandini design.

Jay's car is an updated 1986 Quattrovalvole with wide side arches and an aggressive front spoiler. However, it does not have a massive rear spoiler. His version was one of the latest 5.2-liter models with a carbureted engine, and its 455 hp. surpassed the power of any modern Ferrari or Porsche. Modern sports sedans can easily eclipse that figure, but none will ever look or sound as amazing as this road jet fighter.

13 McLaren F1

Jay has posted several videos on his YouTube channel in which he talks about his expensive McLaren F1. He repeatedly expressed his gratitude for this. The price of this amazing car has skyrocketed recently and it is likely that this is one of the most valuable cars in Jay's collection.

The naturally aspirated 6.1-liter V12 engine was developed by BMW specifically for Formula 1, and although its power is 627 hp.

Weighing just over 2,500 pounds, it accelerates to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 241 mph. It's still a record for a naturally aspirated production car, but the F1 contains many more amazing automotive innovations that make it a true supercar icon.

Most people have heard of the carbon fiber bodywork, three-seat center drive configuration, and gold leaf-covered trunk, but the F1 also had active aerodynamics and an airplane-style windshield heating element. The racing-car-inspired suspension gave it impressive handling, and even today, the well-handled F1 holds many supercars firmly in its rearview mirrors. Only 106 cars were built and only 64 were road legal, so the value of the F1 will continue to rise and most of them will end up locked up in private collections. Luckily, Jay loves to drive his priceless supercars.

12 McLaren P1

Jay may be a fan of old classics, but he also embraces modern technology. The many restomods that he considers are proof of this. The P1 can't be a direct replacement for the frankly indispensable F1, but it shouldn't have been. It doesn't offer a central driving position or a gold leaf trunk lining, but it raises the performance bar well beyond what even the F1 is capable of.

Full carbon fiber body, 916 hp hybrid powertrain. and the ability to reach 186 mph in 5 seconds faster than the F1 highlight its colossal acceleration capabilities. The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine is an evolution of the unit used in McLaren's mainstream vehicles, and here it delivers 727 horsepower. The smart electronics can activate the electric motor to fill in any gaps in the gasoline engine's power delivery, and can also power the car on its own for about 176 miles. Then it's not a Tesla, but that's enough range to get out of your area on a morning commute without waking everyone up.

11 Ford GT

Jay Leno is clearly intimately familiar with numerous big names in the automotive industry, and sometimes that means he gets exclusive access to limited editions of upcoming supercars. So when the latest Ford GT was announced, it's no surprise that it was among the first 500 people offered the chance to own it.

The current trend towards downsizing engines for efficiency means that the engine behind your head is actually a V6 that uses some F-150 truck components. However, don't worry; The 3.5-liter engine is still special. Important parts such as turbochargers, lubrication system, intake manifold and camshaft are made to order. This means you get a very truck-unlike 656bhp. and acceleration to 0 km / h in 60 seconds.

While the previous GT was bulkier with its supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine, this new version is lighter and has a chassis so good that it can easily handle any European exotic on the race track. The fast-acting hydraulic system that lifts the nose at the touch of a button also makes it far more practical on the road than most comparable vehicles.

10 Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Josh Taubin of Towbin Motorcars claims to have sold over 100 cars to Floyd Mayweather Jr. over the past 18 years. We're not talking about the Toyota Camry either; these were all top-tier sports cars from major manufacturers around the world. Now Towbin Motorcars isn't the only place that has benefited from Mayweather Jr.'s patronage; Obi Okeke of Fusion Luxury Motors also sold over 40 cars to the boxing legend in the same period.

Now, not all cars are destined to live out their days in Mayweather's possession, as he's more than happy to flip the car over if he gets tired of it. However, if he likes the car, he can buy several cars of the same model with slight differences in trim and equipment. He also likes to paint his cars depending on which house he intends to store them in.

Mayweather Jr. also likes to modify some of his acquisitions. Many have massive alloys and "Money Mayweather" written on the back - not too subtle, but this is not what a boxing champion who ended his career with an undefeated streak of 50 fights represents. Let's take a look at some of his most impressive performances over the years.

9 Ferrari 458

The 458 may be old news when it comes to the Mayweather collection, but it remains a true modern classic that still makes the goods out of its 570hp 4.5L V8. Champion also bought the 458 Spider when it came out. Of course, when Floyd is in the mood for something good, he can't stop at one or two, so he bought a few more for his other properties.

As the latest naturally aspirated mid-engined V8 in the lineup, the 458 will certainly be a big hit with collectors going forward.

There is no word on whether there are any cars left in Floyd's collection today, but with so many cars and so many properties in his portfolio, there could very well be one sitting in a corner somewhere, waiting to be discovered.

8 LaFerrari Aperta

LaFerrari has become the next leader of the Ferrari lineup in the current decade. This is a 963 hp V12 hybrid coupe. was so fast that the term "hypercar" began to be used to describe it.

It was often compared to the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder, two hybrid hypercars that offered similar performance.

The LaFerrari was the only one to ditch the turbo and use its electric motor solely for acceleration, and in 2016 an open-top version of the Aperta became available. Only 210 were built, not 500 coupes, and Mayweather has one of those rare beasts in his collection.

7 McLaren 650S

McLaren has only really been in the modern supercar game since it introduced the 4 MP12-C in 2011. This car has become the model for an onslaught of models that have often frustrated famous players.

The successor to the MP4-12C (by then renamed "12C") was the 650S. Both shared the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo powerplant, but the 650S produced 650 hp rather than 592 hp.

That and a much-improved look gave the 650S a much-needed combination to beat its contemporary rivals Ferrari and Lamborghini.

6 Mercedes-McLaren CLR

Before McLaren decided to go it alone, and before Mercedes-AMG started building its own junior supercars, there was the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. This unusual collaboration gave us a supercar that could perform both on the track and on the road, despite being luxurious and equipped with a conventional automatic transmission. Mercedes' 5.4-liter V8 used a supercharger to pump out 626 hp, and this gave the heavy car acceleration comparable to that of a modern Porsche Carrera GT.

The car pictured here is a special edition 722. Introduced in 2006, it featured a power increase to 650 hp as well as suspension modifications to improve handling.

While it turned out to be a worthy super GT, it was clear that both manufacturers had different ideas about what a car of this type should be. McLaren even went so far as to offer a limited 25-unit McLaren Edition that included suspension and exhaust upgrades to make the package edgier. Production ended in 2009 with 2,157 SLRs built.

4 Pagani Huayra

The Huayra followed the superb Zonda, which went on to produce an impressive 18 years. While the Zonda used a naturally aspirated V12 engine with an AMG engine of varying power, Huayra added two turbochargers to the mix to produce a ferocious 730bhp.

It also had active aerodynamic flaps at both the front and rear of the car to help it stick securely to the road when traveling at speed.

The interior follows the Pagani tradition of emphasizing aspects of mechanical linkages and is a true work of art. The one you see in the image above is an even rarer, track-focused version of the Pagani BC, a limited edition version named after the original Pagani buyer, Benny Cayola.

3 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

Koenigsegg makes some of the craziest limited edition supercars on the planet. Christian von Koenigsegg has been in the business since 2012, and the CCXR Trevita 4.8-litre twin supercharged V8 engine is one of his most extreme models. The name 'Trevita' means 'three whites' in Swedish and refers to the carbon fiber body with a special white diamond weave.

If you value exclusivity, you might be interested to note that only two cars were built, and only Floyd's car is road legal in the US.

Its 1,018 hp and the accompanying 796 lb-ft of torque should make the morning commute quick. Having bought this car for a royal sum of $4.8 million, Floyd auctioned off his CCXR Trevita back in 2017. There is no official information on whether the new owner paid a premium for Trevita, but it is likely that Mayweather Jr. made a decent profit. on sale.

2 Bugatti Veyron + Chiron

For a man who is undefeated in the ring, the only right thing is to have an invincible car on the road. The original Veyron was a real breakthrough in sports cars and offered levels of power and performance that a few years ago would have been considered ludicrous. Even now, the power is 1,000 hp. its four-cylinder engine with four turbines is impressive.

Its ability to hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and then go over 260 mph is still only matched by a few specialized vehicles. Floyd liked it so much that he bought two: one white and one red and black. Not satisfied with that, he went and bought the open top version when it became available. No news on what he did when the 1,500 hp Chiron came out.

1 Rolls-Royce Phantom + Ghost

Now, even the person who spends most of their time in the fast lane of life will want to relax from time to time. For our boxing legend, that means getting around in the latest Rolls-Royces. Over the years, Floyd has owned more than a dozen of these British luxury barges, including the latest Phantom and Wraith models.

The Phantom is said to be the quietest car in the world when it comes to blocking out crowd noise. The Wraith, on the other hand, offers the powerful power of its 632-litre twin-turbocharged V6.6 engine with 12 hp. from BMW. With a Rolls-Royce for every occasion, Floyd Mayweather Jr knows no bounds when it comes to his luxury cars.
