The progress of work on the reconstruction of Sirena 607

The progress of work on the reconstruction of Sirena 607 Great fun for car enthusiasts – perhaps the only Syrena 607 in Poland that has never been mass-produced, is being restored in one of the workshops in Mazantsowice near Bielsko-Biała! See other Polish-made models that did not enter production.

The progress of work on the reconstruction of Sirena 607 “This is a big event,” says Jacek Balicki, vice president of vintage cars at Automobilklub Beskidzki. - In Poland, under communes, if a prototype was not put into production, it was liquidated. But knowing the entrepreneurial spirit of the Poles, such cars were saved,” he adds.

Sirena 607 was built as a prototype. It differs from the traditional siren in a different body. It uses revolutionary solutions for those times.

The tailgate opens, the rear seats fold down to increase luggage space, and the doors open in the direction of travel. Jacek Balicki emphasizes that the line of this model was a bit similar to the Renault R16.

– The back of the mermaid was cut off, so we named it “R 16 Mermaid”. I know that very few of these models came out, now they have disappeared altogether, he admits.

However, the car did not go into mass production. The reason was probably too high costs, but it is possible that political considerations did their job.

Until now, it was believed that none of these models survived. Meanwhile, he unexpectedly found himself in one of the workshops in Mazury. It is being restored by Bronisław Buček, known for his skill in renovating historic carriages.

The car was supposed to be scrapped, but the owner decided to save it. When he arrived and showed a photo of this model, asking if I would undertake the repair, I could not believe my eyes. I didn’t think that any model of this siren was preserved, the tinsmith admits. The owner of the car wished to remain anonymous. It is known that the car lay in the garage for a long time. When it fell into the hands of Bronisław Buček, it was in a deplorable state.

“I realized that this is not a job for a few days, but much longer,” says the mechanic. After a thorough inspection, identifying the elements that need updating in the first place, set to work. Some elements had to be recreated by hand, including the entire floor slab or partition wall. The biggest challenge was recreating the fenders and rear apron. The rear of the car is significantly different from any siren models. There are no templates. It was possible to rely only on photographic documentation. But thanks to high precision and dedication, it was possible to painstakingly recreate elements known only from photographs.

To date, sheet metal processing is almost 607% complete. Siren XNUMX awaits soon: anti-corrosion protection, varnishing, upholstery and those related to mechanics. And then? Return to salons and participation in shows.
