Honda CR-V 2.0i

The basic idea remains the same: the caravan is stretched out in height, properly raised so that the belly does not get stuck on any major bumps, and with all-wheel drive, which provides mobility even in snow or mud. But Honda took it a step further with the launch of the new CR-V, at least in terms of form. While the first CR-V was actually just an SUV-like station wagon, the new CR-V looks like a real SUV.

The entrance to the cabin is similar to SUVs - you do not sit on the seat, but climb onto it. Because the CR-V is slightly lower than real SUVs, the seat surface is at just the right height to allow you to slip into it. Do not get in and out of the car, which can only be considered good.

Most drivers will be fine behind the wheel. The exception is those whose height exceeds 180 centimeters. They will quickly discover that planners have read the latest population growth figures for this planet at least ten years ago. Front seat movement is so short that driving can be extremely tiring and ultimately painful for the lower limbs.

However, engineers may not be held responsible for this; All in all, it could have been cooked up by a marketing department that wanted a lot of rear legroom and therefore required a short rearrangement of the front seats.

Otherwise, there are no problems with ergonomics. The instrument panel is transparent and pleasing to the eye, otherwise the seats are comfortable, and due to the adjustable seat tilt, a comfortable driving position is easy to find. The steering wheel is a bit flat and the shift lever is quite long, but still comfortable. Between the front seats is a folding shelf with recesses for storing cans or bottles of drinks. In addition to these, there are two shallow spaces that could be used more comfortably with a few extra inches of depth. The shelf folds down to give enough space between the seats to climb onto the back bench. Where is the parking brake lever? On the center console where you'll find (roughly) the shifter in a Civic. Installation is quite practical, except that due to the inconvenient shape of the safety button, loosening it when tightening it to the end is too inconvenient.

On the other side of the center console was a holder to give the front passenger something to grab onto during off-road adventures. Likewise, the horizontal handle was still above the drawer in front of him. Field feats? Then something is missing in the cabin. Of course, the control lever with four-wheel drive and gearbox. You won't find them, and the reason is simple: Despite the looks and holders on the inside, the CR-V is not an SUV.

It sits comfortably in the back, with ample (of course) knee and head room. The joy of the trunk is even greater, as it is well-shaped, adaptable and with a base of 530 liters, it is more than big enough. It can be accessed in two ways: either you open the entire rear door to the side, but if there is not enough space, you can only open the windows on them.

The buttons for adjusting the automatic air conditioning are also commendable, and as we're used to with most Hondas, they're slightly scratched when fine-tuned. Namely, the center vents can't be closed (unless you turn off the side vents as well), the same goes for the vents that take care of defrosting the side windows - and that's why they constantly drag around the ears.

Like its predecessor, the four-wheel drive is controlled by a computer. Basically, the front wheels are set in motion, and only if the computer detects spinning, the rear wheelset also comes into action. In the old CR-V, the system was jerky behind the wheel and very noticeably, this time a little better. However, the fact that the system is not perfect is evidenced by the fact that with sharper acceleration, the front wheels squeal, indicating that the foot on the accelerator pedal is too heavy and the steering wheel becomes restless.

At the same time, the body tilts significantly, and your passengers will be grateful if you do not take on such an undertaking. On slippery surfaces, this is even more pronounced, the same goes for acceleration in corners, where the CR-V behaves like a front-wheel drive car. In connection with all of the above, we advise you not to just get into the mud with the CR-V.

or deep snow, as its all-wheel drive takes some getting used to.

The engine is not the best option for the CR-V all-wheel drive design. The two-liter four-cylinder petrol engine makes a respectable and lively 150 horsepower, and it responds instantly and with great pleasure to accelerator commands. Therefore, he is a good companion on asphalt, especially in the city and on the highway. In the first case, it manifests itself as a live acceleration, in the second - high cruising speeds, which is not entirely typical for such cars.

Consumption corresponds to the characteristics of the driver's right foot. When calm, it can turn around or a little more than 11 liters (which is favorable for such a large car with 150 "horses"), with a moderately lively driver it will be a liter higher, and when accelerating to 15 liters. for 100 km. A diesel engine would be welcome here.

On the slippery surfaces of the house, there is less engine where it can be quite durable, so four-wheel drive requires a lot of work to get its power on the road, since the reaction to the slightest touch on the foot is instant and decisive. - this is not a feature that would be useful mud or snow.

Like the chassis, the brakes are solid but not shocking. The braking distance corresponds to the class, as well as the overheating resistance.

So, the new CR-V is a beautifully finished whole that not everyone will like - for many it will be too off-road, for many it will be too limousine. But for those looking for a car of this type, this is an excellent choice - even considering the affordable price compared to competitors.

Overall rating (334/420)

  • Nowhere does it stand out unnecessarily, but at the same time it does not suffer from pronounced weaknesses. The technology is still top notch, the engine (as befits a Honda) is excellent and nimble, the transmission is quite comfortable to use, the ergonomics are standard Japanese, as are the quality of the materials selected. Good choice, only the price could have been a little more affordable.

  • Exterior (13/15)

It works great off-road and the build quality is top notch.

  • Interior (108/140)

The front is too tight for the length, otherwise there will be a lot of space in the rear seats and in the trunk.

  • Engine, transmission (36

    / 40)

The XNUMX-litre, XNUMX-cylinder petrol engine isn't the best choice for an off-road vehicle, but on the road it does a great job.

  • Driving performance (75

    / 95)

On earth, miracles are not to be expected, in asphalt corners it leans: the CR-V is a classic soft SUV.

  • Performance (30/35)

A good engine means good performance, especially in terms of weight and a large frontal surface.

  • Security (38/45)

The braking distance may be shorter, otherwise the braking feel is good.

  • Economy

Consumption, depending on the type of car, is not too high, but in a year or two the diesel will come in handy. The guarantee is encouraging
