Honda CR-V, new hybrid technology in Paris - Preview

Two electric motors, 2.0-liter petrol and innovative direct drive.

Honda will present on the occasion Paris Motor Show 2018 new CR-V with advanced hybrid technology. This is hybrid system Designed by Honda, equipped with i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode) technology consisting of two electric motors, an Atkinson cycle gasoline engine and an innovative direct drive to deliver high and high levels of efficiency. Production of the new Honda CR-V Hybrid for European markets is slated to begin production in October 2018, with first deliveries to customers scheduled for early 2019.

How the Honda CR-V hybrid is made

The CR-V Hybrid will be powered by an efficient 2.0-liter i-VTEC petrol engine, a powerful electric motor and a lithium-ion battery system that together deliver maximum power. 184 CV (135 kW) and 315 Nm. Instead of using a traditional transmission, the moving parts will be directly connected to each other using single fixed ratiowhich will provide smoother transmission of torque and offer a higher level of sophistication than the conventional electronic CVT transmission commonly found in other hybrid vehicles on the market.

Honda's exclusive i-MMD technology enables automatic and intelligent downshifts in three driving modes without the slightest interruption, thus ensuring the highest possible efficiency. The three driving modes will be EV Drive (electric only), Hybrid Drive (the gasoline engine will drive a second engine / generator that combines electrical energy supplied by the battery system) and Engine Drive (the clutch lock mechanism creates a direct link between the gasoline engine and wheels).

Automatic switching from one mode to another

In most city driving situations CR-V Hybrid it will automatically switch from hybrid mode to EV mode and vice versa to improve efficiency. In hybrid mode, excess energy from the petrol engine can also be used to recharge the batteries via the generator. Engine Drive will be most effective when driving on the motorway and at high speeds. In addition, the virtually inaudible engine noise makes the CR-V extremely quiet.

Driver information interface

Finally, the new Honda CR-V Hybrid boasts an exclusive display with Driver information interface (DII, Driver Information Interface), which will show the driving status, allowing the driver to understand the combination of energy sources that power the vehicle. The panel will display the charge level of the lithium-ion battery, a graph of the energy flow used and the state of charge of the system.
