Honda Jazz 1.4i DSi LS

At the first contact, I immediately notice the shape of the baby. The large headlights, which penetrate deep into the fender, together with the radiator grille and folds on the bonnet, form a cheerful and smiling face. Someone likes it and immediately falls in love with him, someone simply does not. It's hard to say which is more and which is less, but it is certainly true that Honda complemented the front image of the car with the rear one. Here, its designers have drawn curves that don't differ more noticeably from the European average in this class, but overall the phenomenon is still fresh enough that you can't confuse jazz on the road with the Polo, Punta or Clio.

So if you want to differ from the average level of the Slovenian car fleet (at least in the class of small cars), then Jazz will be the right solution. Pico on I created another high body structure. As I focused on the interior and added very good rear bench seat flexibility to the tall body structure, I found myself in front of a thoroughbred mini limousine van.

You can see the details of folding and folding the third folding back bench in the attached photos, as a more detailed description would be much more extensive and complex than can be shown in the photos. Therefore, at this stage, I can focus on other elements of the passenger compartment.

Unfortunately, the dashboard is still made of cheap and hard plastic to the touch, and the seats are upholstered in the same cheap fabric as in the Stream house. I was even more surprised by the many storage boxes in the cabin. The only drawback is that, with the exception of the standard (decent dimensions) of the cabin, all the rest are open - without covers.

In general, in Jazz, I and many of the passengers who managed to ride in it were also impressed by the overall sense of spaciousness, which is mainly due to the already mentioned high-rise structure. The driving position is high (as in a limousine van) and as such, together with reasonably good seat ergonomics, does not deserve serious outrage. As soon as I got behind the wheel for the first time, I wanted a little more vertical steering, but already in the first few kilometers I got used to this feature, and it was possible to start a real trip.

When the key was turned, the engine started quietly and calmly. The response of the "motorcycle" to short twitching of the accelerator pedal is good, which was once again confirmed while driving. From the small four-cylinder one-liter, four-deciliter engine, I expected a bit of liveliness on the road compared to the Clio 1.4 16V engine. This is most pronounced at average city speeds, but with proper (read: frequent) use of the gear lever, this can also be carried over to higher average speeds. However, don't expect too much on the highway, where speed is set to relatively low edge torque or air drag is created. Since I just mentioned the gearbox a little earlier, let me also emphasize its feature, or the feature of the gear lever that you operate. Short, light and above all precise movements are particularly inspiring every time and at the same time set standards in this vehicle class.

Considering the described features, I preferred to stay with the Jazz in the arms of the bustle of the city, where, with its small size and maneuverability, it turns out to be much better than on open tracks. This conclusion was repeatedly confirmed to me by a very strong chassis suspension. Because of the often cited tall design, Honda's engineers have resorted to a stiffer suspension that prevents excessive body lean in corners. At the same time, this chassis feature and the relatively short wheelbase (a good body of 3 meters cannot fit on a much longer wheelbase than the existing one) also result in a very noticeable longitudinal movement of the car. road waves. class is the exception rather than the rule. In the city, this inconvenience rarely comes to the fore.

The fact that the main mission of Jazz is not aimed at setting speed records is also confirmed by its brakes or the behavior of the car when braking hard at speeds over 100 km / h. It was then that the kid began to behave erratically, which led to the need to correct the direction. Even the measured braking distance (from 100 km / h to a place of 43 meters) is not too happy.

Interestingly, the Honda dealer in Slovenia offers our market only a more powerful version of the Jazz with a single (reasonably rich) equipment level. There is also a version with a 1-liter engine that offers almost the same range as the 2-liter version. It's a shame, because with a wider offer, Honda could compete even more seriously with the stiff competition in this class, because other suppliers offer a much wider engine offer, which, in the first place, gives buyers a choice.

When I looked through the price lists and found that the seller of my Jazz 1.4i DSi LS was looking for an exceptionally rich 3 million tolar, I thought: why exactly are you already thinking about Jazz? Ok, since it has very good rear bench and trunk flexibility and the drive technology is very good, but a million more tolar (?!) Than the closest competitors require is exactly a million more.

Okay, it has air conditioning that almost everyone will have to pay extra for, but it's definitely not worth that seven-figure surcharge. When I looked at the competitors, I found that for this money I already get a Peugeot 206 S16 (I still have a good 250.000 3 SIT) or Citroën C1.6 16 700.000V (I still have a slightly less 1.6 16 SIT) or Renault Clio 1.3 600.000V. (I still have a good one). Half a million tolar) or Toyota Yaris Versa 1.9 VVT (I still have good SITs) or even a new Seat Ibiza with a weaker TDI engine, which also leaves me with some changes.

Overall rating (280/420)

  • Flower Jazz is a power unit. Not far behind are flexibility and ease of use. Depending on the purchase price, you can easily forget the possible less flexibility and perfection of the transmission when buying another instance of this class, especially with the additional fulfillment of individual wishes from the list of additional payments.

  • Exterior (13/15)

An image that conquers or repels is a refresh of an increasingly boring small car offering. Workmanship: no comments.

  • Interior (104/140)

Very good flexibility in the rear bench seat. There is a lot of storage space, but, unfortunately, they are not closed.

  • Engine, transmission (35

    / 40)

The transmission is the best part of the Jazz. Gear lever movements are short and precise. The design of a fairly lively and responsive engine is slightly above average.

  • Driving performance (68

    / 95)

On average, the car is easy to drive, but one big drawback: it is inconvenient to flirt over the road waves outside the city.

  • Performance (18/35)

Only the average performance corresponds to a relatively small engine displacement.

  • Security (19/45)

The safety equipment is pretty poor. Just two front airbags, ABS and below-average braking distances do not create an overly pleasant experience.

  • Economy

This jazz is not very economical. If not, acceptable fuel consumption is buried by the astronomical purchase price. The Japanese language warranty is encouraging.
