Honda leaves Formula 1
The Japanese manufacturer will retire after next season.
The Japanese company Honda has announced the termination of participation in the Formula 1 World Championship. In which he recorded serious successes. This will happen after the end of the 2021 season.
In the 80s, Honda supplied engines to the McLaren team, driven by two of the greatest racers in history, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. At the beginning of this century, the company also had its own team, as in 2006 Jenson Button brought him his first victory.
After a hiatus, Honda returned to racing royalty in 2015. again starting to supply engines for McLaren. This time, however, the brand was far from successful, as the engines often failed and there was not enough speed on straight sections.
At the moment, Honda engines are installed on Red Bull and Alfa Tauri cars, because during the season Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly won one competition for each team. As the reason, the company's management cited changes in the Japanese automotive industry, aimed at creating the powertrains of the future. They simply do not need developments from Formula 1.
Red Bull and Alfa Tauri commented that it was difficult for them to make this decision, but it will not stop them from pursuing high goals in the current and next seasons.
