Honda launches an inexpensive electric scooter

Still low-key in the electric two-wheeler segment, Honda has just unveiled its U-GO small electric scooter. Originally targeted at the Chinese market, this low-cost model may soon be shipping to Europe.

Exclusively city car

To follow the logic of the company's other low-cost urban electric scooters, the Honda U-GO was launched through its subsidiary Wuyang-Honda, based in China.

Two versions available

The Japanese company has announced two versions of its new electric scooter, each offering two different power levels. The standard model has a hub motor with a continuous output of 1,2 kW and a maximum output of 1,8 kW. The maximum speed of this model is 53 km / h. The second model, called LS “Lower Speed”, is equipped with an 800 W geared motor. It is capable of handling peak loads up to 1,2kW and a top speed of 43km/h.

Both versions are equipped with a removable 48 V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1,44 kWh. Each scooter weighs just over 80 kg, has an LCD display, has a capacity of 26 liters under the seat and can accommodate two passengers. They can also be optimized by adding a double capacity battery.

Very affordable price!

With an elegant yet aesthetically efficient design, the Honda U-GO will be priced at 7 yuan or 499 euros. This makes it one of the most affordable electric two-wheelers on the market (in comparison, this price is half that of an electric scooter made by NIU).

Marketing in Europe?

At the moment, Honda has not announced the distribution of its new scooter in countries other than China. However, many electric two-wheelers, originally intended for the Chinese market or more generally for Asia, ended up being marketed in Europe and the United States. Examples include renowned manufacturers such as NIU or Super Soco, whose first electric two-wheelers were launched in the Asian market and then distributed in Europe.
