Hybrid Air: Peugeot Coming Soon, Compressed Air (Infographic)

The PSA Group has invited nearly a hundred economic and political players, as well as representatives of the press and partners to the Automotive Design Network event organized by Peugeot in Velizy at the research center. Among the innovations presented, one technology stood out from many others: the "Hybrid Air" engine.

Meeting environmental needs

More precisely, a hybrid engine that combines gasoline and compressed air. This engine was created to deal with the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as pollutants. This engine has three main advantages: an affordable price compared to a line of electric or hybrid engines of its generation, low fuel consumption, about 2 liters per 100 kilometers, and, above all, respect for the environment, while CO2 emissions are estimated at 69 g. / kilometer.

Smart engine

The small feature that sets the Hybrid Air engine apart from other hybrid engines is its adaptability to each user's driving style. In fact, the car has three different modes and automatically selects the one that adapts to the driver's behavior: air mode that does not emit CO2, petrol mode and simultaneous mode.

An automatic transmission complements this engine for unparalleled driving comfort.

Since 2016 in our cars

It should be easily adaptable to cars like Citroën C3 or Peugeot 208. This new technology should be on the market from 2016 for cars in the B and C segments, that is, say, with a heat engine with an output of 82 and 110 hp. respectively. Meanwhile, the PSA Peugeot Citroën group has filed around 80 patents for this Hybrid Air engine alone, in partnership with the French state, as well as strategic partners such as Bosch and Faurecia.
