Hyundai Accent 1.5 CRDi VGT GL / TOP-K

Thus, Accent has been on the market for 12 years. But more than that, it's an interesting figure that shows how many generations of Accents have entered the market today. Those of you who know the life cycle of European models - on average it lasts seven years - logically conclude and say that two. As Asian models age faster, some will add one more and say three.

What is true? One! Yes, you read it right. One single generation. All the changes we saw in the Accents were just "restyling". And this also applies to those two from 1999 and 2003 that have taken care of the new design of all the models on offer. Not for the last one. The new Accent is brand new. And although after what you read in the previous paragraph, you probably would not dare to attribute it to him. The shape is really new, but with the new shapes, the previous one and the model in front of it also hit the roads, and it turned out that they had only been refurbished. So how do you believe it's a new car? One option is to delve into the technical data. They show that the new Accent is longer (by 6 centimeters), wider (by 5 centimeters) and taller (by 1 centimeter).

Okay, but that's not enough. The fact that this is a new model is usually indicated by the wheelbase. How much does it measure? Exactly two and a half meters, which is six centimeters more than before. So Accent is really new. However, the most encouraging thing about this is that it has not increased by inches in front or rear, but between the axles, which clearly hints at a more spacious interior. Another piece of information speaks in favor of passenger comfort. Let's get back to measurements. Let's ignore the issue of width - increasing the width by 1 centimeter can not greatly affect the well-being of passengers - but the information about the height is all the more reassuring. The new Accent is nearly a meter and a half tall, and you'll notice it, if not sooner, during comfortable getting in and out of the car, which older ones will especially appreciate, and also when you're sitting inside. There is no shortage of space. Even on the back bench, this is enough. If two adults in the back - the third will sit much worse due to the convex middle part of the back - there is not enough space, then it will be in the leg area. Thus, the new Accent, with its good four and a quarter meters, is a suitable solution, especially for a young family with two children. Even better for a couple of pensioners.

In fact, four-door cars have long gone out of fashion in Europe. Even smaller in this size class. And since young people are investing something in it, they prefer to resort to versions of limousines, even if only with three doors. The limousine is left to the elderly, who swear by its usefulness. An extra door on the sides and a lid on the back are just an advantage when two couples get together on a Sunday trip. And these four passengers will also delight in admiring the interior of the new Accent.

This one has made a lot of progress compared to the previous one. It's now two-tone - it was black and gray on the test car - the seats are upholstered in quality fabric with a discreet pattern, the steering wheel and shift knob are not wrapped in leather but feel good, the plastic is better than you'd expect, gauges and warning lights are not in fashion, but they are well shaded by day, well lit and transparent at night, and the biggest surprise of all the new Accent awaits you in the center console. The sophistication with which the switches there respond will be hard to find even in cars that are several times more expensive than this Accent.

Among the most important accessories on the GL / TOP-K equipment list (this is the only equipment offered) you will find ABS and airbags for the driver and front passenger (this is switchable), electric sliding of all four windows in the door, In an on-board computer that installed a little awkwardly a command button (found at the bottom of the dashboard frame), central locking, and things like levers to open the fuel tank and boot lid from the inside. So that's all you need. Rather, the majority.

At the very least, electrically adjustable outside mirrors are expected from the richest Accent, reading lights (only one is available at night to illuminate the room), better seats (especially when it comes to pillars) and what has become the standard among European cars. ., even in the most basic models, but still not in the Accent. Factory setting of the car radio. And not because it would be better, but solely because this is how manufacturers scare off thieves.

There shouldn't be any special problems with luggage. Given its size, the four-door Accent has a fairly large trunk in the rear. The factory claims a figure of 352 liters, we put everything in it, except for a medium-sized test case, and the trunk is also expandable. But don't get your hopes up. Only the back is divided and folded, which means a step or an uneven bottom and, as a result, a significantly smaller opening.

So look at the five-door Accent as you would any sedan. At least when it comes to its ease of use. When the word about driving performance begins, subtract the missing centimeters to five meters (if you associate the word limousine with cars five or more meters long), and you have a very solid “driver”. He cannot hide the fact that he has a Korean temperament, so he still swallows bumps softer than "Europeans" and bends more in corners.

But following their example, he summarized much more. Some are good and some are bad. The bad ones refer to the steering servo, which is too soft and too little communicative for the driver to really know what's going on under the front wheels. The 1-liter turbodiesel should undoubtedly be added to the top. By the way, the fact that the Accent is new is also clearly indicated by the engine range, which includes new engines of 5, 1 and 4 liters (the latter is not offered), as well as a completely new diesel engine.

If you remember, the previous Accent was equipped with a large three-cylinder engine. Now it is a four-cylinder engine with much more power (previously 60, now 81 kW) and more torque (previously 181, now 235 Nm) available to the driver in an extremely wide operating range (from 1.900 to 2.750). rpm). And trust me, this engine is another one of those things that surprised us as much as the difficulty of pushing the buttons on the center console. There is always enough power and torque, more than enough for a calm driver.

The gearbox isn't perfect, but it's better than we're used to at Accents. Brakes and ABS do their job reliably. Also due to non-standard Avon Ice Touring winter tires. And if you are interested in spending, we trust you that too. On average, he "drank" from 6, 9 to 8 liters of diesel fuel, which slightly depends on our driving style.

So, as a result, the new Accent has become even more European, which proves not only its progress, but also the price, which has already completely caught up with its closest competitors.

Overall rating (261/420)

  • Probably the biggest problem with the four-door Accent on our floors will be shape. Limousines in this class of cars have long ceased to attract. However, it is true that Hyundai is getting more solid every year. And this progress is visible in Accent too.

  • Exterior (10/15)

A four-door version won't be eye-catching in this class, but the Accent is a car that can convince with its quality.

  • Interior (92/140)

The two-tone interior is pleasant, the switches on the console are above average, there is enough room in the front, the leg may run out in the back.

  • Engine, transmission (29

    / 40)

The diesel is economical, agile and bouncy, the drivetrain is average, but better than we are used to at Accents.

  • Driving performance (50

    / 95)

The suspension is tuned for ride comfort over sportiness. This is also confirmed by the 14-inch wheels and only medium production tires.

  • Performance (27/35)

The engine is undoubtedly one of the nicest things about the Accent. Diesel and above all powerful. He really didn't run out of power.

  • Security (30/45)

Basic security is guaranteed. That means two airbags, ABS, EBD, self-tightening belts and ISOFIX.

  • Economy

The engine is economical. It is true, however, that the nose-to-nose Accent is no longer a cheap car. The value in the used car market can also be a cause for concern.
