Hyundai i20 1.6 CRDi (94 kW) Style (3 doors)

Less than two weeks had passed since the end of the test for a brother with a 1-liter gasoline engine, and another one was already waiting in the garage. Also i2, with the same number of doors, but five thousandth more expensive. More precisely, for 20 euros. Almost half the price! Where does this difference come from?

The second, larger and more powerful engine brings down the price the most. This black i20 has a 1.582 cubic meter turbodiesel screwed onto the front pair of wheels, in a "high power" HP version.

The offer also includes the same 85 kilowatt engine, which has 94 of them, which is even 1 times more than the most powerful "gasoline engine". The data on the maximum torque, which is available from two thousand rpm, is also more convincing.

I would not have thought that he had almost 130 of them, "horses" when accelerating from a toll station, but this black carcass is very sovereign when accelerating. The power reserve is felt most of all when loaded with two or three passengers, since breathing does not end.

At 1.500 rpm, when it starts to pull, the tangent to the power curve isn't too steep, so it lets you mess around with the gearbox when you're in no rush.

So - the most powerful i20 is not a small GTI, but it can be fast and not fatiguing at speeds above the maximum allowed on the highway, including due to a smooth ride (sometimes it only gets stuck when switching to reverse). transmission speed. Therefore, we recommend it to those drivers who do not want to drive in a convoy on a freeway lane and do not want to spend a fortune on gasoline.

However, like most diesels, it certainly has a downside to the coin. Noisy if we're straight. When it starts cold, hard and loud, but dies down after two or three traffic lights. If you are used to quiet work at gas stations, it will bother you the first time, the second time, maybe the fifth time, then the man will get used to it.

The interior of the test i20 was enriched with red (for an additional 80 euros), which brings the otherwise black upholstery to life, and we can only say good things about the dashboard and the feel inside.

It can be seen that everything in Hyundai is thoroughly researched and tested, as there are no awkwardly shaped edges or remotely located switches, except for the one used for walking on the on-board computer. In addition to the ABS, the car also has a standard brake force distribution (EBD) system and completely disconnected (even while driving!) ESP.

And also the Isofix system, automatic air conditioning, two airbags in front and two airbags and two curtains on the sides, an alarm system, 15-inch alloy wheels, some chrome and leather, a 94-kilowatt engine, and we have already talked about the latter. – and we will do it again.

evaluation

  • When looking at the list of accessories, 15 thousand does not seem so superfluous, but still - for this money you can already have a caravan and an i30 turbodiesel in the garage.
