Hyundai i20 - Road Test

Pagella

Engine a three cylinders Korean is an effective antidote for thirst for diesel.

Thus, fixed costs are significantly reduced.

It is also surprising for liveliness.

La Hyundai i20 it's a subcompact you don't count on.

Because in the busiest segment of the market, the Korean brand, although gaining popularity, is not yet as recognizable as the European brands.

Too often, those who have to change cars only consider the Hyundai five-door in second place when you factor in the usual B-segment heroes.

Bad, because today the i20 has a modern and beautiful look, but at the same time technological, thanks to LED daytime running lights (optional).

Version 1.1 of the CRDi is also an anti-crisis weapon: the turbo diesel engine is one of the most compact on the market (only Smart has been able to do better) and offers brilliant performance in exchange for a small amount of diesel fuel.

Separate three-cylinder, but you quickly get used to it: the engine vibrates only if it is under pressure when the sixth cylinder is restored below 1.300 rpm.

Above this value, the motor pulses evenly and gently with a satisfactory replica. The cold numbers of the V-Box, when measured, confirm the feeling behind the wheel: the engine quickly picks up revs even with the fifth and sixth.

The draw is not endless, but more than enough for the type of car.

There is traction, but it does not affect the mileage: when driving carefully, you drive at a speed of 24 km / l, and when you press the gas with less respect, you do not go below 18 km / l.

Such splendor also invites you to play with the turns: the setting is well calibrated, that is, it provides the necessary stability and control and does not create difficulties at fast speeds.

Roughness, taken on a grand scale, however, is not completely extinguished and puts pressure on the suspension. For example, on motorway bends, when you cross the beams at 130 km / h, the trajectory undergoes a slight deflection as the wheels hit the viaduct “ribs”.

Nothing dangerous, rest assured, this is the result of the absorption capacity, which has obvious limits.

"Sister" Kia Rio (Kia - Hyundai brand) in these situations conveys greater solidity, greater efficiency.

But the rear wheels of the i20 follow the road surface well when braking to the limit: even when cornering, there is no risk of deviating from the trajectory and ABS with ESP (standard) are ready to help the driver.

The i20 offers other useful tools as well: although it does not have a stop and start system (present in the Blue Drive version), it does have a great shift indicator that indicates the best time to shift up or down, and which gear to use. ...

In addition, the gearbox allows for poor handling by always providing precise grip. Thus, the car is interesting, the price of which at 13.400 € is not as low as it used to be, but should be revised on the basis of improved quality and good equipment.

Not forgetting the plus five-year warranty (standard) with unlimited mileage.

Il engineFinally, it has a maintenance program that reduces interventions, which is another source of savings.
