World Car Awards Announces Car of the Year at New York Auto Show
NEW YORK. The World Car Awards' Car of the Year award was announced Wednesday morning in New York City on the first day of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car was the star of the competition, winning three awards, including the most important one: Car of the Year 2022.
The nominations were dominated by electric vehicles. In addition, a dedicated category for electric vehicles was introduced for the first time.
The winners of the World Car Awards 2022 are:
Car of the Year (World Car of the Year): Hyundai Ioniq 5
Electric Vehicle of the Year (World Electric Vehicle of the Year): Hyundai Ioniq 5
World Luxury Car of the Year: Mercedes-Benz EQS
Sports Car of the Year (World Performance Car): Audi e-Tron GT
City Car of the Year: Toyota Yaris Cross
Best Design: Hyundai Ioniq
The awards were announced at the Javits Center in New York.
