Hyundai ix20 1.6 CRDi HP Premium

Demands from car buyers are on the rise: we seem to have reached the point where we demand a complete package from manufacturers anyway. Whether it's sportiness mixed with usability, compactness and spaciousness, demands have forced manufacturers to invent the right compromises. The Ix20 is designed for customers who want a small, compact vehicle that is easy to drive around town but still has plenty of room for passengers and luggage.

The task is difficult, and Hyundai has succeeded. Well, along with Kia, which is shipping the Venga from the same production line. How big is this kid really? Aside from the slightly shorter longitudinal travel of the front seats, there is plenty of room in the back. Not just for children, even if you are taking an adult on a long journey, you shouldn't hear complaints from behind. Only when installing ISOFIX child seats will you worry a little, as the anchors are hidden somewhere deep in the upholstery.

The 440-liter trunk is larger than, say, the Astra or the Focus, but knocking down the rear seat yields a 1.486-liter compartment. The choice of materials in the interior may not be quite first-class, but the equipment comes at the expense of the Premium equipment package. So on cold days we could make excellent use of the heated front seats and steering wheel, which works quickly and flawlessly, but over time, even at the lowest level, it becomes too strong. Unlike some manufacturers who are trying to sell us a smart key that only needs to start the car, Hyundai can also unlock the car without taking it out of its pocket. We just missed the switches on the rear pair of doors a bit.

The driver's workspace is very easy to use, we doubt anyone would need instructions for use. The Ix20 has not yet succumbed to the trend of storing buttons in multimedia devices, so the center console remains classic, but still transparent. Perhaps you just want the trip computer to update a little, for example, it cannot digitally display the current speed, and even menu navigation is still one-way with a single button.

The test ix20 was equipped with a 1,6-liter turbodiesel in a more powerful version, for which you have to pay an additional 460 euros. 94 kilowatts will be more than enough for a toddler, we doubt you will want more cavalry under the hood at any moment. Despite the smooth ride, the engine can get quite loud, especially on cold mornings. Even driving the ix20 is undemanding, the chassis is tuned for a comfortable ride, and the maneuverability in urban centers is written in leather. Drivers will also appreciate the vehicle's excellent visibility as the driving position is set slightly higher and the A-pillars are split and have an integrated windshield.

Although the price of the test ix20 jumped to a nice 22k thanks to the most powerful engine and the best hardware, it is still worth taking a look at the price list below and look for the one with a more reasonable package. And don't forget Hyundai still offers an excellent XNUMX-year unlimited mileage warranty.
