Infiniti Q60 2.0t – Grand Touring wheel

It can be said that Infiniti is more expensive than Nissan, but it cannot be denied that its designers are great. The Q60 looks nice, but is there more to come? We have tested it.

The automotive market has shrunk significantly over the past two decades. On the one hand, we have practical vehicles for everyone – SUVs, hatchbacks, sedans and station wagons. On the other hand, very expensive high-end sports cars - Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and so on.

What about coupes that cost a little less? Where do they belong? Has their popularity fallen because of customers or because of unprofitable investments in the face of an inevitable decline in sales?

Fortunately, something has been going on in this topic for several years. Toyota has introduced the GT86, the German luxury Series 4 trio, C, E and S class coupe and A5. Lexus has an RC. What about the rest? Infiniti recently joined the ranks with a poster-only model, the Q60. But what is under the shell? How does he ride? We have tested it.

Musculature swimmer

Looking at men who exercise a lot, we can see how different types of training and diet affect their body structure. Bodybuilders and strongmen will resemble the Hulk as sprinters and swimmers show off their ideal body shapes. The design of the Infiniti Q60 is more in line with the latter group.

The surface of the car is very wavy. It resembles tense muscles, but not overdeveloped. It's enough to make it hard to take your eyes off him. Beautiful.

The bodyline itself is very slender, the roofline is low, and the only thing that may not have turned out as well as the rest is the rear end is a little on the big side. There are angles where it looks very good, and there are angles, such as when viewed from the side, where it looks disadvantageous.

Looking from behind, you might get the impression that the Infiniti is suspended so ... high. This is just an illusion, because the suspension is sporty low, but the feeling is what it is. However, there is curiosity in the back. Well, there is nowhere to find a button on the trunk lid that would open it. Apparently because the chrome button is embedded in the left lamp.

Speaking of chrome. There is quite a lot of it here, which certainly gives the Q60 a very elegant look. Elegant enough to be called Gran Turismo. The Infiniti coupe also looks much more expensive than it really is. However, we will return to prices later.

Good morning, Q50!

Inside we will get rid of illusions. Previously, it might have seemed that this model has nothing to do with the rest of the brand. Inside, it is basically identical to the Q50.

The console has two screens. One is designed to display information, the other is touch and is responsible for displaying something like a menu. The resolution is quite high, readability is very good.

The watch itself may lack a bit of nobility, but there is no need to cling to it. They're very beautiful. The steering wheel is very comfortable in the hands, the buttons on the console are close, the cup holders too. You may go.

Well, not quite. Before we go, we still have to complain a little. The seats are set high enough for such a coupe. We also know where the beautiful roofline came from. He works very low. Being a 1,86 cm driver, I could forget about any hairstyle. I try to ride according to the technique - at the right distance from the steering wheel and with the backrest almost vertically. And in this position, the head lands on the roof, you have to stoop. The car, however, was equipped with a skylight - without it, it would probably be better.

You don't want to imagine what it's like to travel in the back seat. It doesn't look like it at all. It is not comfortable. From negligible legroom to negligible headroom. Only two people should travel in the Q60 - we only use the other two seats when needed.

We can look into the trunk with pleasure. 342 liters of capacity and a little space in the back seat is more than enough for two people who want to go somewhere far away.

This is not the full range of possibilities.

Although you can order a very interesting version with a 3.0t engine from us, i.e. V6 with mileage as much as 405km, we got a quieter 2.0t for testing. This is a two-liter gasoline engine that develops 211 hp. at 5500 rpm. and 350 Nm from 1250 to 3500 rpm. It accelerates from 100 to 7,3 km/h in 235 seconds, so it is already sporty enough. The top speed of XNUMX km/h should be enough for most drivers.

However, I don't fully understand Infiniti's policy. The Q50 sedan can be bought from us with a 3.0tiz engine with rear-wheel drive. The Q60, in turn, is available with this engine only with all-wheel drive. Shouldn't it be the other way around sometimes? Shouldn't a coupe enjoy the sportiness of a classic drivetrain, and a sedan the stability of a drivetrain? We don't have to understand every manufacturer's decision, perhaps there is some rationale behind it.

Maybe someday we will test the 3.0t again, so let's focus on the 2.0t. Paired with a 7-speed gearbox, it handles the road just fine. There are no problems with overtaking. Also with the driving itself - the Q60 is very neutral. Even if we want the rear-wheel drive to help "screw" into the turn, it will not help us much.

While he's clearly not a super sportsman, those who would like to see the world through a rear-wheel-drive side window are in for some bad news. The rear uses a standard differential. If any of the drive wheels starts to slip, most of the torque will be transferred to the wheel that has no traction when traction control is off. This leads to behavior that is not always predictable. Once the slippage of the rear axle will be more, sometimes less. Much depends on the speed with which we enter the turn.

However, in Gran Turismo it's not about defeating all of Zakopiánka sideways. The main thing here is to get, for example, from Krakow to Barcelona or Paris and enjoy the trip itself. The Infiniti Q60 is sure to put a slight smile on the driver's face, even with this weaker engine. You will only need to become familiar with the particular steering system, which is extremely accurate but also very uninformative. It's more like driving a simulator than a real vehicle.

Infiniti Q60 with a 2.0t engine is not very economical, although it is tolerable for such power. The manufacturer claims 6,8 l / 100 km on average, 5,4 l / 100 km on the highway and 9,2 l / 100 km in the city. In addition, in the city it is necessary to take into account in the region of 11-12 l / 100 km, on the highway closer to 7-8 l / 100 km.

Gran Turismo half price

History has taught us that cars that fit into the canon of the beautiful Gran Turismo cost them - usually at least half a million zlotys. Infiniti will gladly sell us such a car for less than half that amount - in the basic version it costs PLN 184. However, the configurator isn't very extensive, so it's worth focusing more on the equipment level and then thinking about some extras. Such an Infiniti Q600 with a 60t engine and a very rich set costs about 2.0 thousand. zloty - and no more.

The situation is different with the 405-horsepower 3.0t. The price of this version is much closer to 300 . zloty.

Of course, Infiniti doesn't give away the car for free, because the competition prices are pretty similar. However, the competition will earn us quite a few salty extras, and in Infiniti we get almost everything at once. Only Lexus is following the same path as Infiniti.

I doubt that this car will go to the masses. It is beautiful, but extremely impractical - so it is unlikely to take the place of the first or even second car in the family. It will be chosen only by those who want a coupe, which is quite unusual for Polish roads.

And that's the magic of the Infiniti Q60. It is accessible, but at the same time very exotic. We will look at it for a long time.
