Instructions for replacing the VAZ 2105-2107 chain damper

Often there are problems with the timing chain on the VAZ 2105-2107 when it starts knocking. Of course, the first step is to check its tension and tighten if necessary. But it also happens that the whole point is in the broken-off damper, which as a result breaks down and falls in parts into the engine sump. In this case, all the fragments must be pulled out, and the damper must be replaced with a new one.

To perform this repair, you will need to remove the valve cover from the engine and then release the chain tension. And then we just need a tool like:

• Ratchet handle with 10 head
• Magnetic telescopic handle or ordinary thin wire

So, first of all, you need to unscrew the two bolt securing the damper itself to the cylinder block, which are located on the front cover. This is shown more clearly in the picture below:

First, it is better to unscrew the upper bolt, and then while holding the damper with a handle or wire, unscrew the lower one. After that, you can safely take it up:

Now you can buy a new one, the cost of which is about 50 rubles, and install it in its original place in the reverse order. Please note that it is necessary that the holes in the cylinder block cover line up with the threaded holes on the damper itself. When you have to do it by touch, it is sometimes not so easy to combine and bolt into the thread. And one more thing: the bottom bolt is shorter than the top one, so keep that in mind as well.
