Interesting books for a 5-year-old child - favorite titles!

The older preschooler already has more and more activities and his attention is much more focused on the lives of his peers. The themes of friendship and kindergarten come to the fore. In turn, the parent willingly sees developing books in the children's library, as well as books that help in working with emotions. Today we will look at the best books for children 5 years old.

How to replenish the children's library with smart books for a 5-year-old child? First of all, let's not be afraid of longer and more complex content. At this age, the child begins to concentrate longer. For collaborative reading, we still gravitate toward headlines that have more illustrations than text, but we also introduce content-dominated forms. Let it be longer stories or novels broken into short chapters. Something where the child does not have to combine watching with listening all the time. He can, for example, solve puzzles or draw, or lie in the dim light before going to bed and listen to us read.

When it comes to the subject, books about friendship, kindergarten, adventure (especially with detective themes), and animals and interests like firefighters, dragons, horses stand the best odds. In turn, parents seek to replenish their book collections with educational books for 5-year-olds in reading and numeracy. Over the past few years, titles related to working with emotions and caring for well-being have also been very popular.

What books should a 5 year old read?

Let's take a look at the new and classic 5 year old books most likely to interest older preschoolers.

  • “Kaitek and the Bear”

Fifteen short but captivating stories about a little boy who has adventures every day and tells his teddy bear about it before bed. The adventures of Kaitek are nothing but everyday events and games typical for toddlers. This is why it is very easy for young readers to identify with the main character.

  • "One, two, three, sand wolf"

When it comes to books for a 5 year old, the bestsellers are consistently the Sandwolf series (here in one volume), which is second to none. During Karusi's beach encounters with the Wolf, reality mixes with childhood fantasy. The story is divided into 45 chapters on different topics. It is difficult to say who will enjoy reading more: the child or the parents. This is one of those wonderful books that stays with us for the rest of our lives.

  • Lotta. Three stories"

If you start your adventure with the classic Astrid Lindgren, let this be a collection of three stories about the children from Avantürnik Street. Lindgren wrote not only interesting books for children. She wrote books about real childhood. This title is pure pleasure, and the illustrations make you want to immediately be in it.

  • “Poodles and french fries”

When the island of three dogs and a puppy runs out of water and potatoes, the inhabitants have to save themselves by moving. They cross the sea to reach the land inhabited by poodles. How will they be received by the natives? A brilliant book written and drawn by Pia Lindenbaum. A bestseller released a few years ago but still awarded and updated.

  • "What do feelings do?"

It's so beautiful! A picture book with a symbolic amount of text, but intended for viewing, experiencing and talking. This is a great aesthetic holiday, but also an excellent support in the knowledge, discrimination and pacification of emotions and feelings. Loved by kids of all ages, loved by their parents. You will be delighted.

  • It would be "8+2"

A classic of children's literature and a good book for a 5-year-old child at the same time. Unusual adventures of a very large family. Retro atmosphere, analog childhood, humble life that turns out to be beautiful, happy and adventurous. A world that today's children no longer know. Lots of nature and lots of volumes - what could be better?

  • "Cards"

Good books for a five-year-old child are educational in many ways, including science. “Cards” is a long-term offer, i.e. a book that will lie in the children's library for so many years until it falls apart from frequent viewing. Here we have well-prepared large format maps, drawn and described in a style suitable for young children. International bestseller created by Poles.

  • "Book of Letters"

It is worth taking advantage of the interest awakening at this age in letters and numbers. There are so many proposals that a separate article would be needed, but one of the most interesting is the Letters cardboard box. Each page is dedicated to one letter and each letter is crocheted! Beautiful, colorful illustrations, funny character presentations that hide additional puzzles.

  • series "Teddy Bear"

Comics are always a good choice, although they have been greatly underestimated in our country for the last quarter of a century. Comic storytelling requires a very intense mental work from the reader - we read both graphic and text form and draw conclusions about what happened between frames. The perfect comic for a five-year-old will be Teddy Bear and a whole series of detective adventures. This is a worthy successor to the best Polish comics of thirty years ago.

  • "Trees"

A beautiful, large format book for a 5-year-old child about the wonders of nature that each of us faces - trees. Lots of news, curiosities, natural, historical and geographical knowledge. A fun read for readers of all ages, plus excellent, often funny illustrations. It is worth taking advantage of the growing interest of a five-year-old child in the world around him and reading this unique book together. I also recommend to kindergartens, extended day clubs and hobby groups.
