The power unit of the injection VAZ 2107 was the first at AvtoVAZ in a number of injection models. Therefore, the novelty caused many questions and comments: Soviet drivers did not know how to maintain and repair such a motor. However, practice has shown that the injection equipment of the "seven" is very practical and convenient, and it also allows a number of alterations and improvements for the driver himself.

What engines were equipped with VAZ 2107

"Seven" was produced for a very long time - from 1972 to 2012. Of course, during this period, the configuration and equipment of the car changed and modernized. But initially (in the 1970s), the VAZ 2107 was equipped with only two types of engines:

  1. From the predecessor 2103 - a 1.5-liter engine.
  2. From 2106 — a 1.6-liter engine.

On some models, more compact 1.2 and 1.3 liters were also installed, but such cars were not widely sold, so we will not talk about them. The most traditional for the VAZ 2107 is a 1.5-liter carburetor engine. Only later models began to be equipped with 1.5 and 1.7 liter injection engines.

Moreover, front-wheel drive engines were mounted on a number of exhibits of the rear-wheel drive VAZ 2107, but the designers immediately abandoned such an undertaking - it was too time-consuming and unjustified.

Technical characteristics of the "seven" injection engine

In carburetor systems, the creation of a combustible mixture is carried out directly in the chambers of the carburetor itself. However, the essence of the work of the injection engine on the VAZ 2107 comes down to a different approach to the formation of the fuel-air mixture. In the injector, a sharp injection of the fuel itself into the working engine cylinders takes place. Therefore, such a system for creating and supplying fuel is also called a “distributed injection system”.

The injection model VAZ 2107 is equipped from the factory with a separate injection system with four nozzles (one nozzle for each cylinder). The operation of the injectors is controlled by the ECU, which regulates the flow of fuel to the cylinders, obeying the requirements of the microcontroller.

The injection motor on the VAZ 2107 weighs 121 kilograms and has the following dimensions:

  • height - 665 mm;
  • length - 565 mm;

Injection ignition systems are considered more convenient and modern. For example, the VAZ 2107i has a number of important advantages over carburetor models:

  1. High engine efficiency due to accurate calculation of the amount of injected fuel.
  2. Reduced fuel consumption.
  3. Increased engine power.
  4. Stable idling, as all driving modes are controlled via the on-board computer.
  5. No need for constant adjustment.
  6. Environmental friendliness of emissions.
  7. Quieter operation of the motor due to the use of hydraulic lifters and hydraulic tensioners.
  8. It is easy to install economical gas equipment on the injection models of the "seven".

However, injection models also have disadvantages:

  1. Difficult access to a number of mechanisms under the hood.
  2. High risk of catalytic converter damage on rough roads.
  3. Capriciousness in relation to the consumed fuel.
  4. The need to contact auto repair shops for any engine malfunctions.

The VAZ 2107i power unit initially used AI-93 fuel. Today it is allowed to fill AI-92 and AI-95. Fuel consumption for injection models is lower than for carburetor models and is:

  • 9.4 liters in the city;
  • 6.9 liters on the highway;
  • up to 9 liters in mixed driving mode.

What oil is used

High-quality maintenance of an injection engine begins with the choice of oil, which is recommended by the manufacturer himself. AvtoVAZ usually indicates in the operational documents of manufacturers such as Schell or Lukoil and oils of the form:

  • 5W-30;
  • 5W-40;
  • 10W-40;
  • 15W-40.

Where is the engine number

The engine number is personal for each car. This is a kind of model identification code. On injection "sevens" this code is knocked out and can be located only in two places under the hood (depending on the year of manufacture of the car):

What motor can be put on the "seven" instead of the standard

Engines from foreign cars

Imported engines are rightfully considered more reliable and durable, so the idea of ​​​​installing a foreign engine on a VAZ 2107i often excites the minds of drivers. I must say that this idea is quite feasible, if we take Nissan and Fiat models of the 1975-1990s as a donor.

The thing is that Fiat became the prototype of the domestic Zhiguli, so they have a lot in common structurally. And Nissan is also technically similar to Fiat. Therefore, even without significant alterations, engines from these foreign cars can be installed on the VAZ 2107.

Rotary power units

On the "sevens" rotary motors are not so rare. In fact, due to the specifics of their work, rotary mechanisms are able to significantly optimize the operation of the VAZ 2107i and give the car acceleration and power.

An economical rotary engine ideal for the 2107 is a modification of the RPD 413i. The 1.3-liter unit develops power up to 245 horsepower. The only thing the driver should know about in advance is the lack of RPD 413i - a resource of 75 thousand kilometers.

To date, the VAZ 2107i is no longer available. At one time it was a good car at an affordable cost to live and work. The injector modification of the "seven" is considered to be as adapted as possible to Russian operating conditions, in addition, the car is easily amenable to various kinds of engine compartment upgrades and alterations.
