What are the parts of a drill bit?

Drill tip
	The tip of the auger helps keep the bit centered so it can accurately drill in a straight line. Auger bit tips are made with spurs and either a lead screw or gimlet, each suitable for a different purpose.
	Guide screw The guide screws pull the drill through the wood as the drill rotates, meaning the user does not have to apply a lot of downward force to drill a hole.
	Guide screws are available in two different thread gauges. The first, coarse screw, is an aggressive thread that works best with soft woods. A wider thread gives you a faster feed rate, meaning you can drill through soft wood at a faster rate. The wider space between threads also means that the lead screw is less likely to become clogged with wood debris.
	The second, thinner screw is best for hardwood, which has a more elastic structure and must drill at slower speeds. This fine thread provides improved grip.
	gimlet dot When used in a drill press or electric drill, the lead screws can sometimes be too aggressive and really pull the drill through a piece of wood, causing damage due to cutting too fast. Auger bits with a drill bit are more suitable for this application as they allow the drill to be centered without additional thread tension (although bits with lead screws can be used - be careful!).
	Barefoot Drill bits that do not have a gimlet or lead screw on the end are called "bare" or sometimes "bare". They are uncommon and rely on flying and cutting surfaces to guide them through the workpiece in a straight line. The absence of a lead screw also allows them to cut holes with a flat bottom, which has the advantage that the bottom of the hole will be visible in the finished workpiece (such as a desktop tidy).
	Spurs Spurs, also known as "feathers", are responsible for cutting around the outer perimeter of the hole before the edges start to drill through the rest of it. This prevents splinters when the drill penetrates the wood surface and keeps the edges of the hole neat and smooth.
Drill lips
	The jaws cut the material out of the hole by lifting it up and pushing it up and out of the hole along the coil. They are sometimes called "cutters".
	The number of edges on the auger bit depends on whether the flight has a single or double twist (see below). Single flight screws have one edge, while double flight screws have two.
Drill bit
	The flight of the auger bit is a helical twist or whirl through which the waste escapes. The flight can be single or double.
	Single flute bits tend to be slightly stronger and stiffer, and the wide helical flute running the length of the bit allows for more chip ejection than double flute bits. This means they don't need to be pulled out of the well as often to keep it clean.
	Double twist bits cut neater and smoother holes because they have a second edge that makes the hole walls smoother. In addition, the second rotation results in more surface area of ​​the bit remaining in contact with the workpiece while drilling, reducing the risk of harmful vibrations that can lead to distortion or oversized boreholes.
Auger bit
	The material that forms the helix on the auger bit is sometimes referred to as "web". The thicker the web, the stronger the auger.
Drill shank
	The shank is the part of the drill that goes into the drill. Drill bit shanks are usually square in shape as they are designed to be used with hand clamps. They can be used in mechanical drives, although you may find it difficult to mount them in a three-jaw chuck.
