What parts does a bolt-on gas regulator consist of?

| The inlet is where bottled gas enters the regulator. There is a sealing washer inside the connecting thread and around the inlet. It is usually made from synthetic or pure rubber and is designed to minimize the risk of gas leakage. The gas will corrode the rubber, but you can buy a replacement washer when it wears out. | |||

 | The outlet pressure is printed on the outer casing and is set to a fixed value. This means that no matter how fast the gas exits the cylinder, it will always exit the regulator at a given pressure - in this case 28 mbar. | |||
Throughput | ||||
 | Another figure, sometimes printed on top, is power, also known as gas consumption. This tells you how many kilograms of gas can pass through the regulator in one hour. Bolt-on butane regulators for Calor 4.5kg gas cylinders have a capacity of 1.5kg per hour. | |||
Inlet pressure | ||||
 | The inlet pressure is the rate of gas flow from the cylinder to the regulator. Some regulators have the maximum inlet pressure listed at the top, eg 10 bar. This is the highest speed the regulator can handle. The inlet pressure is always higher than the outlet pressure because the compressed gas generates more force. The regulator slows down the gas supply and supplies it with a uniform flow to the device. | |||
Regulator outlet | ||||
 | The outlet, also known as the spigot, connects to the hose that carries gas from the regulator to the instrument. The ribs help hold the clamps in place. | |||
