What are the parts of a mole grip?

Mole Grip Handles | ||
The handles are used to control the jaws of the instrument. The top handle is often referred to as the "fixed handle" because it does not move. On some Mole forceps/forceps, the handle fits into the upper jaw like a solid piece of metal.
The bottom handle is movable and provides the pressure needed to grab and hold an object. The handles are interconnected by a rod, a spring and hinges (see below).
The jaws of the mole are gripping
Mole clamp/pliers jaws are used to securely grip and hold an object. Jaws of different sizes and shapes are able to capture and hold objects of different sizes and shapes. (See: What sizes of Mole grips are available? и What are the types of Mole grips?).
TeethSome Mole Grips/Pliers have teeth cut or molded into the surface of the jaws to provide an even more secure grip.
Mole grips adjusting screw
An adjusting screw, also known as an adjusting knob or nut, is located on the top handle end of the Mole clamps/pliers and is used to adjust the width of the jaws so they can grip and hold objects of varying thicknesses. The adjusting screw is usually knurled (hatched or rough on the outside) to make it easier to grip and handle.
Some Mole grips/pliers have a socket at the end of the adjusting screw that can be turned with a hex wrench (hex wrench) to further increase grip pressure.
tension screwSome auto-lock pliers/pliers have a tension screw between the grapple/plier handles instead of an adjusting screw. (See: What are the types of Mole grips?)
Mole Grip Release Lever
The Mole Grip/Plier Release Lever is a thin piece of metal that sits under the bottom handle and allows for a quick release of the handles and therefore the jaws. (See: How do Mole grips work?) The lower handle provides protection against accidental release of the trigger.
Some users have reported being pinched while handling the release lever and bottom handle of most Mole grips/pliers. To prevent this, some Mole grips/pliers have a release lever that extends slightly beyond the end of the bottom handle to make it easier to open. This type of trigger is often referred to as "non-pinching".
Mole grip spring | ||
The spring on the Mole clips/pliers is located inside the top handle of the pliers and helps hold tension between the handles. It stretches or contracts as the handles open and close.
Mole Grapple Connecting Bar
The connecting bar fits between the handles of the Mole Grips/Tongs and connects them so that both handles move smoothly when opening and closing the Mole Grips/Tongs.
Mole grips | ||
Locking grips/pliers have multiple pivot points which may include: fixed jaw, jaw adjustment lever, locking lever and release lever pivots. Mole clamps/locking pliers use pivot points to expand and contract the jaw in direct proportion to the force applied to the handles.
Additional features | ||
NippersSome Mole grippers/pliers have built-in jaw cutters that can cut wire and screws and bolts up to 6mm (25") in diameter with small bites. You can usually find pliers with a curved jaw and needle nose. |
