Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 Executive

The chosen company, expensive clothes, great techniques, unwritten rules of conduct and high speeds. It's a medium that's definitely written for Jaguar, and at 4861 millimeters, the S-Type is still a big and prestigious sedan big enough to fit in without any reservations. However, to be completely honest, the pedigrees help him a little too.

How good he is is evidenced not only by his name, but also by his form. Emphasized elegance and prestige, not hiding their British (conservative) origin, radiate some sportiness, so there is absolutely no need to write about his recognizability.

In any case, many people like the S-Type. Everyone who is accustomed to German rivals in this class will show a little less enthusiasm when entering the salon. The key is exactly the same as that of the first Mondeo, without the central locking buttons; they are on a plastic hanger attached to the key.

A fairly domed passenger compartment with spaciousness is also not impressive. The driver and front passenger will not stumble over the space in front, although there is not much of it, which cannot be said for the passengers in the back seat. The rather low sloping roof and the small knee space mean that people and children are sitting comfortably on the back.

Yes, the Jaguar S-Type is first and foremost a sports sedan that does not compromise. And this also applies to the luggage compartment. The designers managed to allocate only 370 liters of luggage for it. It should be noted that the trunk is extremely shallow and completely useless for carrying large suitcases. However, in standard equipment, it is already scaled at a ratio of 60:40.

The rest of the equipment is also quite rich. In fact, even the most "modest" S-Type was equipped with four airbags, ABS, TC and ASC, adjustable steering, electrically adjustable steering wheel for depth and height, electrically adjustable front seats, all four doors in the doors and outside. rear-view mirrors, auto-dimming center mirror, rain and light sensor (the latter controls the headlights), two-channel automatic air conditioning, audio system with cassette player and four dual speakers, on-board computer, executive equipment and cruise control with 16-inch steering wheel switches wheels, an electric sunroof, leather, a memory package that remembers the settings of the driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors, as well as a five-speed automatic transmission with a lever made of wood or excellent imitation.

Well, that already lives up to Jaguar's reputation. And even the cramped driver's seat will quickly appeal to anyone who loves a slightly sportier look inside. No new products. The bright interior, light wood trim or very good imitation, as well as the light leather on the seats and the calm green lighting of the instruments, already familiar from the Mondeo, indicate that the history of Jaguar goes back several years.

The feeling inside is quite aristocratic, Jaguar really wants such owners. That the S-Type is a very elegant sports sedan is also confirmed by the engine range. You will not find a diesel engine in it, although the most modern diesel engines today are superior to gasoline engines in many ways. However, the nose of the Jaguar has only gasoline engines, and they are decently large in volume.

You do not believe? Look. The Beemvee 5 Series engine range starts with a 2-litre six-cylinder, the Audi A2 with a 6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with a 1-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. -cylinder, in the Jaguar S-Type, on the other hand, an 8-liter six-cylinder. Therefore, fears that the weakest version of the S-Type will not have enough power and torque are completely unnecessary. The six-cylinder engine develops 2 kW / 0 hp. at 3 rpm and a torque of 0 Nm, which gives it a sporty performance as well as a chassis.

More sporty than comfortable. Thus, even at higher speeds, the S-Type does not knock the nose out of the corner, which is increasingly seen with German competitors driving to the rear wheels. The position remains neutral for a long time and the rear wheels can only be engaged when the ASC is deactivated. Much less suited to this is the five-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and quick enough, but designed primarily for moderately fast driving. Therefore, a five-speed manual transmission is available in the basic version of the engine, which will surely appeal to fans of Jaguar and manual gear shifting.

Despite the new owner (Ford), Jaguar does not hide its origin. It still wants to be a sporty, elegant blue-blooded sedan.

evaluation

  • It is true that the S-Type cannot hide its affinity with Ford. This will be especially noticed by the driver, as many of the little things (switches, steering wheel levers, sensors, etc.) resemble Ford models. That said, the S-Type, with its design, shape and interior feel, is still a Jaguar with all its good and bad specs.
