Test drive Jeep Commander: militarist

In principle, the special forces can do everything - an elementary example in favor of this is Mr. Bond. James Bond... With the traditional Jeep brand It's not much different - here the Commander name comes from an even more powerful version of our well-known Grand Cherokee.

Compared to the model, the technology platform of which he uses, Commander looks even more massive, uncompromising and, last but not least, even more. Moreover, it even slightly resembles the notorious buzzer. Interestingly, this is happening at a time when the General Motors competitor in question is experiencing serious sales problems ... This particular design is clearly aimed at those buyers for whom the Grand Cherokee style is not masculine enough.

Although the body of the Grand Cherokee is only 4 cm longer, the impressive car is available as standard with three rows of seats, which of course does not change the fact that the diminutive rear seats could only be used by children at best. Visibility through the extensive glass area is not as good as one would expect from the exterior of the car. In addition, thanks to a number of solutions in the Commander, passengers feel almost like in an armored personnel carrier - this impression is enhanced by special side windows and an unnecessarily massive dashboard.

Successful engine, but, unfortunately, high fuel consumption

More than positive is the performance of the diesel engine, which is definitely the most reasonable choice for this car, especially compared to the two voracious eight-cylinder engines in the lineup. The three-liter V6 turbodiesel comes from Mercedes and offers excellent traction even at low operating conditions, due to the lack of power it is absurd to reveal even a word, and the manner of work is worthy of an example. The latest addition to the extremely harmonious drivetrain is a perfectly tuned, smooth-shifting five-speed automatic transmission. However, the transmission has one drawback: a test fuel consumption of 12,9 liters per 100 km clearly shows that the transmission does not feel at home under the hood of the Commander - let's not forget that its own weight transoceanic cruiser weighs more than 2,3 tons, and aerodynamic performance is better to be silent tactfully ...

The strength of this car is on the highway and off the beaten track.

When driving on the highway, the car features stable straight-line movement, low noise level and comfortable suspension operation. Rough sections of road are definitely not the Commander's favorite - in such conditions, the feeling that it is larger and heavier than the Grand Cherokee becomes almost intrusive, and working with the steering system is physically demanding. This explains why the Americans define this car as a representative of the so-called. "Trucks"... This Jeep does exhibit a fair amount of road safety, but the brakes exhibit a severe drop in efficiency under heavier loads that cannot be tolerated.

when driving on second-class roads, the suspension begins to react much more roughly to unevenness, but we must not forget that this is an SUV that has everything you need to overcome difficult terrain. The Commander is available as standard with three fully electronic locking differentials. Such uncompromising Offroad technology in this group is found only in the Wrangler Rubicon, produced under the same brand, as well as in the impressive packaging of the living classic G Mercedes. In short, anyone who is looking for a reliable partner in the face of a Commander in difficulties will never be disappointed.
