Test drive Jeep Wrangler: Founder

The moral prototype of all SUVs has undergone a generational change. The Jeep Wrangler is now equipped not only with the latest technology, but is also available for the first time in an extended four-door version.

The four-door modification received the additional name Unlimited, and compared to the standard two-door model, the wheelbase is increased by 52 centimeters. As a result, the rear seats are packed with a decent amount, and the capacity of the desired space would be enough for an expedition. When loaded to the ceiling, the volume is 1315 liters, and when the rear seats are folded down, it reaches an incredible 2324 liters.

The new Jeep even performs well in terms of entertainment equipment - for example, the audio system allows you to connect an external MP3 player, which is unthinkable for previous versions of the off-road veteran. In addition, in the cockpit of the jeep you can see several completely unknown buttons: for activating and deactivating the ESP system - surprisingly, it is a fact that the uncompromising SUV has it as standard! When the low gear mode is activated, the system is automatically deactivated, since when driving on difficult terrain, slipping and blocking of individual wheels in certain situations can be useful for a successful exit from this situation. The final drive ratio has been reduced to 2,7, which is within the normal range for this type of vehicle.

The Rubicon is capable of (almost) anything

The top version of the family, traditionally named after the legendary Rubicon River in the California Sierra Nevada, is even more extreme than its other siblings. Here, the second stage of the junction box has a 4: 1 gear ratio. This allows very slow climbing up a slope at a speed close to or equal to idle speed. As first impressions of the Rubicon show, the car has a truly amazing ability to navigate difficult terrain and is located on the Olympus of this type of vehicle, where it shares space only with famous characters of the Mercedes G and Land Rover Defender ranks. Despite all this, we are pleased to note that the Wrangler has benefited significantly from the generation change in terms of performance on asphalt. With the increased wheelbase, straight-line travel is significantly more stable, and the new steering system design allows for significantly more accurate cornering.

But, as you might expect, the design flaws of a rigid rear suspension cannot be completely avoided - however, they are kept to a minimum, and comfort, especially in the long version, is at a level that allows trouble-free movement even to long-distance destinations.
