JLR is developing the seat of the future

Simulates a sense of movement and reduces health risks.

Jaguar Land Rover is developing a seat for the future designed to improve driver well-being by eliminating the health risks caused by long periods of sitting.

The "shaping" seat, developed by Jaguar Land Rover's bodywork research department, uses a number of mechanisms built into the foam of the seat that constantly change position and make the brain think it is walking. This technology is so developed that it can be adapted differently for each driver and his companions.

More than a quarter of the world's people - 1,4 billion people - are increasingly sedentary. This can shorten the muscles in the legs, hips, and buttocks, causing back pain. Weakened muscles can also cause injury and strain.

By mimicking the rhythm of walking - a movement known as pelvic sway - this technology helps reduce the risk of sitting on long journeys for long periods of time.

Dr. Steve Aisley, Jaguar Land Rover's chief medical officer, said: “The well-being of our customers and employees is at the core of all of our technology research projects. With the help of our engineering experience, we have developed a place for the future, using innovative technologies that were not previously used in the automotive industry. Thus, we strive to solve a problem that affects people all over the world. ”

Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles now feature the latest in ergonomic seating design with multi-directional seating, massage functions and climate control across the range. Dr. Ailey has also developed tips on how to adjust the seat to ensure the ideal body position while driving, from removing bulky items from your pocket to positioning your shoulders.

The study is part of Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to continually improve customer well-being through technological innovation. Previous projects include studies to reduce nausea during travel and the use of ultraviolet technology to stop the spread of colds and flu.

Taken together, these efforts help achieve a zero destination: Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to helping society lead a safer and healthier lifestyle and make the environment cleaner. Thus, the company builds a responsible future for its employees, customers and communities. With tireless innovation, Jaguar Land Rover adapts products and services to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world.
