Swing or hammock for a summer residence - what to choose for a summer holiday?

Spending time outdoors is one of the most enjoyable activities. Relaxation can be complemented by a gentle and relaxing swaying in the shade of trees on a hammock or under a swing canopy. Which option to choose? What is better hammock or garden swing?

What swing to buy for the garden? Production material and accessories

In general, garden swings are recommended if there is enough space. Unfortunately, in a tiny garden or on a small terrace, they will not work, because they occupy a large area. However, various models are available on the market, incl. for one or more people, as well as hanging or on a rack. Thanks to this, you can easily find a swing that can be placed even on a medium-sized balcony.

A classic multi-person garden swing can accommodate at least three users. This is a good option, for example, when you want to replace a bench or chairs with a garden table with a swing, or if you want several people to use the furniture at the same time. Such a swing also allows at least one user to lie down, which makes them a very comfortable model. However, given the fact that several people can use them at once, which means that the load on the swing can be quite large, you should choose models made of durable materials - metal or wood. You should also pay attention to the quality of chains and springs - they must be thick and durable. Metal or wood also needs to be well impregnated, because being outside all year round, they will be exposed to various weather conditions.

If you want to install a swing in a sunny garden area, it is best to choose a model with a canopy. In a shady corner, a roof is not needed. If your home already has some other garden furniture, you should make sure that the swing and chairs, benches or table are in the same style. To maintain the integrity of the composition, choose a wooden or metal swing, focusing on the building material of your terrace or garden.

Cocoon swings are ideal for small sizes

An extremely impressive looking openwork swing, reminiscent of baskets, balls or sockets, is another addition to the garden seating area. Their shape fits better in a small space and additionally envelops the user. A place for such a comfortable and designer piece of furniture can be found even on the terrace. They take up a little less space than standard garden swings.

Designer accessories for rocking chairs - practical, beautiful and functional

Swings and hammocks in the garden are combined with accessories such as soft pillows and blankets. Colorful accessories are a kind of accent, thanks to which you will bring a little color and diversify the look of a swing or hammock. Choose pillows that are waterproof and that will be easy to wash when dirty.

Fleece or microfiber duvets are good for chilly evenings. When you put them on the seat, you will always have an extra layer on hand, which will come in handy when the temperature drops a little in the evening. Blankets and pillows look beautiful on the swing and make it cozy. The socket prepared in this way effectively promotes relaxation and creates a blissful mood.

When is the best time to choose a hammock for a summer residence?

With less space in the garden, you don't have to give up a comfortable place to lie down. It is enough to install a garden hammock so that you can comfortably relax in the fresh air. The firm material follows the natural curve of your spine, allowing you to relax in a comfortable position. It usually fits one adult, but you can choose larger models designed for two users.

As a standard, a hammock is placed between two tree trunks. However, if there are no suitable plants on the site or the distance between them does not allow them to be attached, then nothing is lost. It is enough to buy a special frame on which you can hang a hammock. This solution also works well on a limited terrace area.

An alternative to a standard hammock can be a hammock chair, otherwise a stork's nest, which for a child looks a bit like a swing. Such a seat is attached to the ceiling or frame.

Swing vs Garden Hammock - Key Differences

Both the garden hammock and the swing are a comfortable rocking chair for the garden or terrace. The two devices differ slightly from each other, among other things, the amount of space they take up, the ease of movement, the size of the seat and the way they are used.

Small tree-lined gardens are the perfect spot for a hammock.

A hammock is a handy solution when you don't have much room to grow and there are trees on the yard to hang it from. It can also be distributed over small balconies. The advantage of hammocks is also the ability to install them anywhere, as well as simply pack them in the car and take them with you, for example, on vacation. This feature is also associated with ease of storage, because after the end of the season, the hammock can be washed and then stored in a dry place where it will not be adversely affected by weather conditions.

Swing for large objects

The garden swing is comfortable and can be used by more than one person at the same time. However, due to the shelving size and bulkiness, you should carefully choose where you put them, as they are likely to stay there for a long time. The sitting position that users of such seats usually take allows them to talk, eat and drink freely. The comfort of using the swing can be increased by adding accessories in the form of a roof, and comfortable cushions can be placed on the hard seat.

When buying, pay attention to the quality of the materials used in the manufacture of garden swings, because in the off-season they will be exposed to rain, wind and snow. Proper impregnation prevents damage due to weather conditions, but you should accept that the seat on the outside will gradually wear out.

Swing or hammock - how to make the final decision?

Still wondering what suits you better: a garden swing or a hammock? It's a good idea to make a list of expectations for all future users. Perhaps then it will be possible to determine which piece of furniture is suitable for the needs of the household. You can also look for a compromise and opt for a hanging cocoon, which will not take up much space and provide comfort comparable to that you experience when using a swing. If the space around the house is large enough, you may eventually decide to buy both - a swing and a hammock - and place them in different parts of the garden.
