Vacation is a time of long journeys and many hours spent behind the wheel. Every year the police sound the alarm with an increase in the number of traffic accidents and victims.

Last year, during the three summer months (June, July and August), 14 accidents occurred on Polish roads, in which 435 people died and 1 were injured. Renault driving school instructors will advise you on how to prepare for your trip and avoid dangerous situations on the road.

Preparing for the tripHow to travel safely

Before a long journey, first of all, you should carefully check the technical condition of the vehicle. In addition, you should check the tire pressure, the washer fluid level and, of course, top up the fuel, remind the instructors of the Renault driving school. The car must be equipped with a first aid kit and a warning triangle, a spare wheel, a tow rope and a fire extinguisher.

Whether the trip will be successful depends largely on careful preparation in advance. When going abroad, the first thing to do is to find out as much as possible about the place where you are going, especially about stopping conditions and emergency phone numbers (especially technical assistance on the road). Before leaving, we must plan and trace the route on the map, designate places for stopping and lodging for the night, and make appropriate reservations. It is worth finding out what documents we need, learn about tolls on motorways and traffic rules in force in the visited country (other than Poland). You can also make several photocopies of the main documents in case of theft or loss (passport, driver's license, insurance, registration certificate) and pack them in different places in your luggage, and leave an additional copy in the car. Let's not forget about insurance. In EU countries, a green card is no longer required, but is required in some non-EU countries. It is also good to check if any additional insurance premiums are needed in the country you are visiting.

and driving safety. The best solution for carrying luggage is roof racks, which do not significantly increase air resistance and do not change the handling of the car. It should also be remembered that the car will "settle down" a little under the influence of the load. On bumpy roads, you should drive at a minimum speed and avoid puddles, Renault driving school instructors warn.

It is especially important not to keep anything under the driver's seat, especially bottles, which can block the pedals. It is also important that there are no loose objects in the vehicle interior, as during heavy braking, in accordance with the principle of inertia, they will fly forward and their weight will increase in proportion to the speed of the vehicle. For example, if a half-litre bottle is thrown forward from the rear window during hard braking from 60 km/h, it will hit everything in its path with a force of more than 30 kg! This is the force with which a 30-kilogram bag falls to the ground, dropped from a height of several floors. Of course, in the event of a collision with another moving vehicle, this force will be many times greater. That's why it's so important to secure your luggage securely.

We're leaving

Many hours of driving tires the body, concentration decreases every moment, and the back hurts more and more. Remember that pressing the gas pedal will speed up our arrival a little.

due to how it increases the danger of driving, especially at night in unfamiliar terrain.

If we are driving on an empty road outside the city at night, stay closer to the center of the road. You never know if an unlit cyclist or a pedestrian will jump out from behind a turn, the Renault driving school coaches suggest. When traveling, especially at night, you should make stops at least as often. How to travel safely every 2-3 hours and at least 15 minutes, always in combination with an oxygenating walk in a safe and well-lit place at night - Renault driving school instructors advise.

If you have a breakdown in an unfamiliar area, it is best to call for roadside assistance or someone you know who can tow us. Wait in the locked car marked with a warning triangle until help arrives.

Renault driving school coaches also advise setting the mirror a little higher than the daily optimal position. This positioning means that in order to see well in the mirror, we must maintain a fully upright position at all times. This driving position reduces our drowsiness and prevents back pain.
