People have almost always used electricity in their four-wheeled vehicles. Who invented the first electric car? How fast can this invention develop? The first electric car - when was it created?

It is believed that the first electric car that really worked and could drive on the roads was created in 1886. It was Patentvagen no. 1 by Karl Benz. However, attempts to create this type of vehicle took place much earlier. 

The first electric car was built in 1832-1839.. Unfortunately, it was not able to function effectively and enter the commercial market. At that time, it was simply difficult to generate energy, and the technology for creating reusable batteries did not exist! It was not until the turn of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries that the first working electric vehicles began to be built.

Who Invented the Electric Car? 

The world's first electric car, which was created in the first half of the XNUMXth century, was created by Robert Anderson. The inventor came from Scotland, but little is known about him. Notably, however, his version of the car was powered by a disposable battery. For this reason, the car was not suitable for long-term use. The invention required a lot of tweaks to get electric cars to actually hit the roads. 

Little more is known about a man who at a similar time, in 1834–1836, was working on another prototype of such a vehicle. Thomas Davenport was a blacksmith based in the USA. He managed to design an engine that runs on batteries. In 1837, together with his wife Emily and friend Orange Smalley, he received patent No. 132 for an electric machine.

The history of electric vehicles may not have lasted long

Mankind has been fascinated by the possibilities of electricity. In the 70s, more and more cars powered by it appeared on the streets, although they were still not efficient enough. And when there was a small chance that electric cars would actually develop, competing cars entered the market using a different method, so around 1910 they began to slowly disappear from the streets.

This is where the story of electric vehicles could end - if not for the fact that their advantages are undeniable. And so, in the 50s, Exide, a battery company, introduced the world to a new automotive proposal. On a single charge, he drove 100 km and developed a speed of up to 96 km / h. Thus began the history of modern electric vehicles that can save our planet from pollution.

The first electric car - how much did the batteries weigh?

In the 40th century, when electronics were still in their infancy, the biggest hurdle was building a battery that could be big enough. They were large and heavy, which put a lot of stress on the cars. The batteries alone weighed up to 50-XNUMX kg. 

At the time, commercial electric vehicles had a top speed of approximately 14.5 km/h and could travel up to 48 km on a single charge. For this reason, their use has been very limited. They were mostly taxis. 

Interestingly, the 63,2 century record for the speed of an electric car was 2008 km. It is worth noting here that the fastest horse in the world at 70,76 ran at a slightly higher speed: XNUMX km. 

The first electric car to travel 1000 km?

In the 50s, the first electric car could travel 100 km.. Today we are talking about 1000 km! True, for most models that are used every day, this is still an unattainable result, but it may change soon! The first electric car to cover such a distance was Nio in the ET7 model, but in his case the distance was calculated according to very optimistic estimates. 

However, Mark did not give up. Recently, the ET5 model was launched on the market, capable of driving the mythical 1000 km according to the CLTC standard (Chinese quality standard). Interestingly, this car, which is hard to find in our country, is not that expensive! A new car costs just over $200. zloty.

Electric vehicles are our future

It seems that the electric car is our near future. Gasoline or diesel is powered by non-renewable energy sources, which means that soon we may not have access to fuel, and they are simply not environmentally friendly. Therefore, the development of this area of ​​motorization is extremely important for humanity. Currently, they still have some limitations, but infrastructure development is making them smaller and smaller. For example, fast charging points for electric vehicles are increasingly found at petrol stations. Also, the battery capacity in subsequent models is consistently increasing. 

The electric car is older than you think! And while they are the most developing branch of this industry. Therefore, one should not forget that in fact it was these vehicles that reigned on the roads at the turn of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, and gasoline cars appeared only later.
