How to quickly and safely warm up a car engine in winter

In winter, it is imperative to warm up the engine, no matter what individual experts say. But the fact is that the motors are heated for a very long time. This applies to both diesel and supercharged petrol units. How to speed up the process quickly and safely, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

During a cold start, the engine experiences increased loads, because the oil that has glassed into the crankcase overnight is not able to instantly reach all the rubbing parts of the internal combustion engine. Hence - increased wear and the risk of scoring on the cylinder walls.

One of the ways to save the resource of the motor came from the North. The secret is simple: you need to make sure that the engine does not have time to cool down after the last trip. That is, it does not need to be silenced at all. This trick is often used in Finland and in our polar regions.

If you focus on the middle zone of Russia, then a lightweight version of this method is suitable. In the car, you need to install a remote engine start system and set a timer. Let's say the car starts every two hours. So the engine will not have time to cool down, and in the morning you will sit in a warm cabin.

Another way to quickly warm up is to increase the engine speed. Remember carbureted engines and the "choke" lever? If you pull this lever towards you, the engine runs with the choke closed and at higher speeds.

As for modern injection engines, a very small increase in speed is enough for them, say, up to 1800-2300 rpm. To do this, just gently press the gas and keep the tachometer needle in the specified range.

Another caveat is that the higher the load on the engine, the faster the warm-up. But here it is important not to overload the unit, because while it is cold, its thermal gaps are far from optimal, and the oil layer on the rubbing parts is too thin. Therefore, let the engine run a little at idle and only then start moving.

Finally, you can park the car in the place where the heating main passes. It can be easily found, as there is no snow above it. In the morning, when warming up the engine, save a minute or two in this way.
