How to quickly pull a chain on a VAZ 2107

The timing chain drive on VAZ 2107 cars is quite reliable and the chain tension does not need to be adjusted so often. But if, when the engine is running, an extraneous knock is clearly heard from under the valve cover in front, then most likely the chain is loose and needs to be tightened.

This procedure is very simple on all cars of the “classic” family, and the VAZ 2107 is no exception. To carry out this procedure, you only need a key for 13.

The first step is to slightly loosen the chain tensioner located on the front right side of the engine. It is approximately located near the water pump (pump) and is very clearly visible in the photo below:

After it is released, you can start stretching. To do this, turn the car's crankshaft about 2 turns, after which the chain should automatically tighten.

Then we tighten the loosened bolt all the way back, and start the engine to make sure that the adjustment was successful.

If for some reason it was not possible to pull the chain in this way, then everything can be done for sure. To do this, you will need to unscrew and remove the valve cover, but here you will need additional tools:

  • Ratchet with wrench
  • Head for 8 and 10
  • Pliers

When the valve is removed, the camshaft star is very clearly visible, and accordingly the chain tension can be checked by hand.

We also turn the VAZ 2107 crankshaft by about a couple of turns. Personally, I did this by including the starter for a split second, or you can do it with a key, throwing it over the ratchet.

Then we check the tension by hand by pressing on the side branch of the chain. It must be elastic and no sagging is allowed:

If the adjustment did not work out correctly the first time, you can repeat this procedure until the desired result is achieved. Then it is necessary to tighten the tensioner bolt all the way.

Good day! The article helped a lot! For fifteen years I haven't driven a classic, but here I had to. The chain rattled like peas in a basin. Many thanks! I fixed everything))))
