How fast do you drive? Find out all the recipes!

The speed limits depend on the type of road we are driving on. When traveling in Poland, entering and exiting cities or towns and cities, we should pay attention not only to signs informing about restrictions, but also to signs indicating the beginning of a motorway or residential area. So, let's recall some of the traffic rules.

What will you learn from this post?

  • What are the speed limits for each type of road?
  • How fast can you drive in built-up and residential areas?
  • Is there a minimum speed limit in Poland?

TL, д-

The speed limit on the road is usually signaled by sign B-33 - “Speed limit”. However, it also depends on the type of road we are driving on and even the number of roads on it. The speed limit is canceled by the corresponding sign or intersection. Polish law does not contain a provision on the minimum speed at which we must move. However, if we obstruct other drivers by driving too slowly, we may face a fine.

шосе

As motorcyclists or drivers of cars and trucks, the permissible total weight of which does not exceed 3,5 tons, we can travel on highways with a maximum speed of 140 km / h... This limit changes as we drive. car with trailer – then 80 km / h. Up to this speed, we must also slow down when steering. truck (with a total weight of more than 3,5 t). While the drivers buses with special equipment (for example, with brakes equipped with ABS or with an integrated speed limiter) can drive on the motorway at a maximum speed of 100 km / h.

Particular attention should be paid to speed limits when traveling within Europe. Polish highways are among the fastest in the world. We will drive slower in France (up to 130 km/h), Spain (up to 120 km/h) or the UK (up to 112 km/h). For non-compliance with the regulations, we can be punished more severely than in Poland - not only with a large fine, but sometimes with arrest.

Motorway

Na two-way expressway There is a speed limit of 120 km/h for motorcyclists and cars, and on motorways 80 km/h for trucks and 100 km/h for buses with a special permit. When we move on a single lane highwayas a motorcycle or passenger car driver, we must reduce the speed to 100 km / h.

National roads

On national roads outside built-up areas, the speed limit for motorcyclists and car drivers is 90 km/h and for truck drivers it is 70 km/h. However, if we use two-way road with 2 lanes for each direction of travel, we can go faster - up to 100 km / h (motorcycle and car) or 80 km / h (truck).

Built-up area

Speed limit in settlements: 50 km / h during the day (for motorcyclists and cars, as well as trucks and buses) and 60 km / h at night (from 23:00 to 5:00).

Living area

A residential area is defined as an area that includes public roads or other roads where special traffic rules apply and where the entrances and exits are marked with appropriate road signs. Usually it is appointed in residential areas to provide residents with the maximum level of security.

In residential areas, drivers of all types of vehicles may move at a speed not exceeding 20 km / h... Slow driving is also often required for other solutions, such as speed bumps, road chicanes, or small roundabouts.

Cancellation of the speed limit

When does the speed limit expire? They are indicated by appropriate signs or intersections. However, there are exceptions. The limit will not change when we pass an intersection in residential areas, speed-limited areas and built-up areas (it can only be canceled by a sign informing about the end of a given area or area). In order for an intersection (or fork) of the road to cancel the current speed limit, must connect with the road we are driving on. Thus, the restriction will not change if we are driving on a dual carriageway expressway and passing an intersection with a road heading in the opposite direction of travel.

From the point of view of the law, the intersection of a public road with an internal and a dirt road, a transport zone and an access road to the property is not an intersection.

Penalty for driving too slow?

Some drivers believe that when entering a motorway, they need to drive at a speed of more than 40 km / h. However, Polish law does not contain a provision on the minimum speed at which a vehicle must move. This often repeated mistake arises from a distortion of the part of the Road Traffic Law that defines the highway. According to the regulations, entry to the motorway is allowed only for vehicles that can reach a speed of at least 40 km / h (and are structurally adapted to it). However, this does not mean that we do not violate the rules when driving a car at a speed of 30 or 40 km / h. We must adjust the speed according to road conditions and not interfere with other drivers driving the car. When we drive too slowly on a highway or freeway, we pose a threat - we create congestion and traffic jams that force others to maneuver dangerously.

By following the speed limit rules, we do not risk being fined. However, above all, we increase our safety – driving at the correct speed ensures that in the event of an accident we will brake and stop on time.
