What to do if an ambulance passes by?

If you encounter emergency vehicles such as ambulances, patrol cars, tow trucks or fire trucks, it is important to know what to do and what maneuvers to avoid so as not to interfere

It is very important to know how we should act when an emergency vehicle is urgently passing your way and to know that acting incorrectly can have serious consequences.

If you come across emergency vehicles such as ambulances, patrol cars, tow trucks or fire trucks, it is important to know what to do and what maneuvers to avoid so as not to get in your way or put other drivers at risk.

First and foremost, you must yield to any emergency vehicle so they don't stop in their path and interrupt the urgency.

However, one should not step aside without taking the necessary precautions, improper execution or without the necessary care can lead to accidents.

How should you give way?

1.- If the street you are driving on has only one lane, try to keep as far to the right as possible so that the ambulance has enough room to pass without stopping.

2.- If the street you are driving on is a two-lane street, all cars that circulate must go to extremes. In other words, the cars in the left lane should pull over to the other side and into the right lane in the same way. This way the ambulance will be able to pass.

3.- If the street you are driving on has more than two lanes, cars in the center and side should move to the right, while cars in the left lane should move in that direction.

These actions ensure that the ambulance does not stop and reach the emergency room. We must not forget that when they are in an emergency, many lives may be in danger, and if you don't give way, those lives will be put at risk.

What to do in case of assignment

- Do not stop. When giving way, keep moving forward, slower, but do not stop. A complete stop can impede traffic and make it difficult to maneuver the emergency vehicle.

- Do not chase the ambulance. Do not attempt to ride behind the ambulance to avoid using traffic in a delicate situation. On the other hand, following one of these vehicles can be dangerous because you have to be very close to it, and if the emergency vehicle has to stop or turn unexpectedly, you could end up crashing.

- Specify your actions. Use your turn signals, turn signals and lights to let all the cars around you know what you are going to do or which end you are going to.

– Do not react hastily. The best way to act in such a situation is to remain calm and, as we mentioned earlier, be predictable. A sudden maneuver can be dangerous.

Don't forget that these cars are in the service of all of us and one day we may need one of them and we will need to keep traffic out of the way.
