How long does the console light last?

The console light is located on the center console of your vehicle. When you open the console, a light will turn on to help you find the items stored in the console. It is usually mounted at the top and covered with a plastic lens to protect you from the heat from the bulb. As soon as you close the console, the switch automatically turns off the light to extend the life of your light bulb.

The light on the console is for safety when looking for your belongings and makes it easier to find items. Since this is a light bulb, it will fail during its lifetime. There are several reasons why a console light bulb may fail, including a blown light bulb, a blown fuse, or a rusty connector. If you try to change the light bulb on your console and it still won't come on, the problem is most likely with the fuse or connector. This should be reviewed and corrected by a professional mechanic because it is electrically related.

There are several different bulbs available for the console, and each one lasts a different amount of time. LED lamps last longer and have a brighter color. LED bulbs can last up to 20 years, so there's a good chance you won't have to replace them unless they get damaged. They are a little more expensive up front, but they can make up for that in the long run because they only light up when the console is open. Another type of console light bulb is the incandescent light bulb. Depending on the power, they can run up to 2,500 hours before they burn out. They are less energy efficient and produce less light per watt, but tend to cost less than LED light bulbs.

If you use the console light bulb on a regular basis or leave the console open, the light bulb will tend to burn out more quickly. Look out for the following signs that your console light needs to be replaced:

  • Light bulb works sometimes but not others
  • The light does not come on at all when opening the center console

If you're looking to repair or replace your console's light bulb, be sure to get a certified mechanic to help you with the problem.
