How long does the AC condenser fan run?

The AC condenser fan in your car works to convert the refrigerant into a liquid form. Basically, it removes heat from your air conditioning system by supplying air to the condenser. By removing heat from the air conditioning system, it reduces pressure and allows the air conditioning system to deliver the coldest possible air. If you use the air conditioner when the AC condenser fan is not running, the air conditioner will simply blow hot air, which may cause serious damage to other components of the air conditioning system.

You can usually expect your air conditioning system to last 10 to 15 years - in other words, the lifespan of your car. The AC system is a sealed device and very little can go wrong. However, the AC condenser fan is electronically powered and virtually every electronic component in a vehicle is susceptible to corrosion. It is not the fan itself that may fail, but the electronics that controls it. If the AC condenser fan stops working, you won't be able to use the air conditioner at all. Not only will you not get cold air, it can affect the entire temperature control system in your car.

Signs that your AC condenser fan needs to be replaced include:

  • The fan does not turn on
  • no cold air
  • Hot air

If your AC condenser fan stops working, you will need to replace it if you plan on using the air conditioner at all. Neglecting to fix it can affect the rest of your car's temperature control, so it's important to diagnose the problem and replace the AC condenser fan if necessary.
