Your ABS system works with both electricity and hydraulic pressure. Fluid levels need to be constantly monitored and this is the job of the ABS fluid level sensor. The ABS fluid level sensor located in the master cylinder is constantly working to make sure the brake fluid is at the correct level. Basically, it's a switch that sends a message to your car's computer if the fluid level ever drops below a safe level. The vehicle's computer then responds by turning on the ABS light and disabling the ABS system. You will still have a conventional braking system, but without ABS your brakes can lock up if you use them on slippery surfaces and your stopping distance can be increased.

There is no set point at which to replace the anti-lock brake fluid sensor. Simply put, you replace it when it fails. However, like other electrical components in your vehicle, it is vulnerable to damage due to corrosion or wear. The life of the anti-lock brake fluid sensor can also be shortened if you do not change the fluid regularly.

Signs that the anti-lock brake fluid sensor needs to be replaced include:

  • ABS is on
  • ABS system not working

Any brake problems should be checked by a qualified mechanic immediately if you want to continue driving safely. AvtoTachki can diagnose any problems with your ABS and replace the ABS sensor if necessary.
