How long does an air suspension air compressor last?

Most drivers are accustomed to gas-charged shock absorbers and struts, but as modern vehicles evolve, other types of suspension have taken over. Many newer vehicles are equipped with air suspension systems that use air-filled rubber bags to provide a smooth and comfortable ride. This type of system uses a compressor that blows air into rubber bags to remove the chassis from the axles.

Of course, from the moment you get in your car to the moment you get out of it, your suspension system is working. Air suspension systems are more complex than traditional gas-filled shock absorbers and struts and are generally less vulnerable to damage. The Air Suspension Air Compressor is one of the most important parts as it is what pumps air into the airbags. If things go wrong, your suspension will be stuck at the level of pump it was when the compressor failed.

There really is no set lifespan for your air suspension air compressor. It could very well last you the lifetime of the car, but if it fails it can happen with little to no warning, and without it you won't be able to supply air to the bags.

Signs that your air compressor needs to be replaced include:

  • Car subsidence
  • The compressor is unstable or does not work at all
  • Unusual sounds from the compressor

It will not be safe to drive a car without proper suspension, so if you think your air suspension air compressor has failed or is failing, you should have it checked and replaced if necessary.
