How to use the SL-100 spark plug tester
The unit is designed to test the performance of spark plugs used on engines running on gasoline. The equipment has a built-in compressor.
An integral part of the car maintenance service is a stand for evaluating the performance of spark-producing equipment. A popular instrument is the SL 100 spark plug tester.

Operating Instructions SL-100
Constant diagnostics of spark generators is mandatory, since the operation of the motor as a whole depends on their condition. Stand SL-100 is designed for professional use in equipped service stations. In the operating instructions, the manufacturer claims to check the correctness of the formation of a spark and to identify the likelihood of an insulator breakdown.
For correct diagnosis, an operating pressure of 10 bar or more is set in the range from 1000 to 5000 rpm.
Procedure:
- Put a rubber seal on the thread of the candle.
- Screw it into a specially designed hole.
- Check that the safety valve is closed.
- Set the contacts of the spark generator in a position that allows you to assess their condition.
- Apply power to the battery.
- Increase pressure to 3 bar.
- Make sure the connection is tight (if not, tighten the part with a wrench).
- Apply high voltage to the spark plug.
- Gradually increase the pressure until it reaches 11 bar (automatic shutdown is provided if the specified parameters are exceeded).
- Simulate idling operation of the internal combustion engine by pressing "1000" and perform a spark test (pressing time should not exceed 20 seconds).
- Simulate the maximum engine speed by pressing "5000" and evaluate the operation of the ignition in extreme conditions (hold for no more than 20 seconds).
- Relieve pressure using the safety valve.
- Switch off the device.
- Disconnect the high voltage wire.
- Unscrew the spark plug.
Specifications SL-100
Before buying a device, it is recommended to study the technical parameters, evaluating whether the installation is suitable for specific operating conditions.

The stand allows you to identify the following defects of spark generators:
- the presence of uneven spark formation at idle and during dynamic engine operation;
- the appearance of mechanical damage in the insulator housing;
- lack of tightness at the junction of elements.
Compact dimensions allow ergonomic placement of diagnostic equipment even in small areas. The unit is powered by a battery with a voltage corresponding to the operating system of the car. The use of a semi-automatic diagnostic stand is allowed only by personnel who have the necessary qualifications and have been trained on such equipment.
