How to Get Rid of the Bad Smell Your Air Conditioner Can Have

Stop using your car's air conditioner, which accumulates moisture and turning it on causes an unpleasant odor. It is best to turn on the air or heating once a week for a few minutes so that an unpleasant odor does not accumulate.

After the winter months and the temperate climate, the heat begins to be felt and with it the need to turn on the air conditioner in the car. However, it may happen that there are some parts in the cooling system that need to be repaired.

Bad smell when turning on the air conditioner in cars is a common problem that is easy to fix.

Why does the air conditioner smell bad?

One of the main causes of bad smell in the air conditioning system is the accumulated moisture, which is replaced by the presence of mold, which, when the air is turned on, is released and then fills the car with an unpleasant smell.

How to avoid unpleasant smell in the air conditioner?

It is recommended not to spend a long time without using the air conditioner or heater. If you live in a temperate climate where you don't need to use it, try running it for at least five minutes once a month before starting your car to keep the air circulating and not clogging your air ducts, leading to mold growth.

Another way to prevent bad odors is to avoid using the air conditioner at maximum power for a long period of time, because the more work, the more condensation and therefore more humidity.

Remember to carry out regular maintenance, which includes cleaning and replacing filters when necessary, to avoid buildup of dust and bacteria.

Bad smell can also be caused by bacteria that reside inside air conditioning ducts. In this case, it is necessary to clean the air ducts and thus eliminate the unpleasant odor.

To eliminate the smell from the air duct, you need to buy a special spray to eliminate these bacteria and unpleasant odors.

Spray the inlets and outlets of the air conditioner. After spraying a special spray, turn on the car's air conditioner for at least 30 minutes so that the product circulates inside the air ducts and destroys the microorganisms that cause musty smell in the car.
