How to attach a child car seat - video where and where to attach a child seat

Traffic regulations require that children under the age of 12 and shorter than 120 cm must only be transported in child seats. If your child has grown above 120 cm by the age of 12, he can be fastened with a regular seat belt and not use a chair. If the child, upon reaching the age of 12, is below 120 cm, then the chair must continue to be used.

Child seats are divided into groups depending on the weight of the child:

  • 0+ - up to 9 kg;
  • 0-1 - up to 18 kg;
  • 1 - 15-25 kg;
  • 2 - 20-36 kg;
  • 3 - over 36 kg.

There are several types of child seat attachments. It is worth noting that the seat can only protect your child if it is properly secured.

Seat attachment types:

  • fastening with a regular three-point car belt - all new cars are equipped with seat belts in the rear seats, the length of such a belt should be enough to secure the seat with the child;
  • Isofix system - all European cars have been equipped with it since 2005 - the child seat in its lower part is fixed using special crocodile mounts, and an additional fastening for a seat belt is provided on the bottom of the trunk or on the back of the rear seat back.

These types of fastenings assume that the seat will be fixed in the direction of the car. However, due to the anatomical features of the body structure of a child under the age of five, it is recommended to fix the chair in such a way that the child sits against the direction of the car. In the event of an accident, his cervical vertebrae and head will have less stress. According to statistics, about 50% of deaths in children are due to improper installation of a child seat.

The safest place to install a child seat is in the middle seat in the back row. It is recommended to strengthen the seat in front only if there is no one to look after the child in the back row, especially if he is an infant.

Unfortunately, the Isofix system is not yet used on domestic cars, sometimes it is even impossible to find seat belts in the back row, in which case they must be installed at a car manufacturer's service center. Each chair comes with instructions that must be read carefully. Seats are also available with five-point safety harnesses that provide more protection for your little one.
