How to Buy a Quality Backup Camera System

Reversing cameras have become standard equipment in many cars today, but if you're driving a model that didn't come from one of the automakers, you can install an aftermarket system. Of course, there are several different factors to consider before making a purchase.

When buying a backup camera system, you need to consider whether you want to buy the system piecemeal or if you want an all-in-one option. Also consider low light capability, size, and more. Here are some tips for choosing a good rear view camera for your car:

  • If you have a built in screenA: If your car already has a screen built into the dashboard (such as a navigation system), you really only need to buy a camera. This can significantly reduce costs compared to buying a complete system or even buying a system piece by piece.

  • linkA: You need to consider whether you want a wireless system or a wired one. This applies to systems you build yourself as well as all-in-one systems. Wireless systems are easier to install (just install and turn on), but they operate on radio frequencies that can be interrupted (interference). Wired systems are tied to your vehicle's electrical wiring and are much more difficult to install. However, they do not suffer from interference like wireless systems.

  • Installation sites: You also need to take into account the available space for installing components. For example, how much space do you have to mount a rear camera? You will also need to install a screen if you do not have a built-in navigation system. Will the screen fit without blocking the view through the windshield? Select a system that is sized to match the space available in your vehicle.

  • Transparency: How well does the system show what is behind the car? The main issues here are the angle of view and depth of field. The wider the angle and the deeper the field, the better the image will be.

  • luxury: The light level of the camera tells you how well it performs in low light conditions. Does it need another light source or does it provide visibility when there is very little light? The lower the light level (0.1 vs 1.0), the better the camera will perform in low light.

Adding a rear view camera system can improve your safety as well as the safety of those around you.
