How to buy a personal license plate in Georgia

Part 2 of 3: Apply for Prestige License Plates

You must send the completed form to your local county office to apply for a prestige or personalized license plate.

Step 1: Get your documents. Download and print Form MV-9B from the Division of Motor Vehicles of the Georgia Department of Revenue.

This is the only form accepted for applying for Prestige license plates.

Step 4: Choose License Plate Options. Enter three license plate combination options on the form templates.

Step 5: Sign the form and date. Write your driver's license number in the box at the bottom of the form, then sign and date the form.

Step 6. Include the required payment in the application. Plates are subject to a one-time fee of $35.

Add another dollar if you'd like the plates mailed to you.

Attach a check or money order to your application.

Part 3 of 3. Get your personal license plates

Step 1: Revisit your local tax office.. Visit the local tax commissioner's office again.

Step 2: Register a new license plate on your car. If you have not already done so, you will be required to pay an annual fee of $20 plus an additional $35 annual prestige plaque fee.

Step 3: Install the plate. Install your personal or prestige license plate on your car in place of your current regular license plate.

After your application is processed, new license plates will be sent to you and your car will receive additional personalization. If you don't feel comfortable installing cool new license plates, you can outsource the job to a mechanic.
