How a new oil filter and fresh oil can ruin an engine

A typical situation: they changed the engine oil - of course, along with the filter. And after some time, the filter "swollen" from the inside and it cracked at the seam. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells why this happened and what to do to avoid trouble.

In modern engines, the so-called full-flow oil filters are widely used. With this design, the lubricant passes through the filtration system, and carbon particles that appear during operation are retained by the filter. It turns out that such a consumable protects the motor better than, say, filters of a part-flow design. Recall that with this solution, only a small part of the oil passes through the filter, and the main part bypasses it. This is done in order not to ruin the unit if the filter becomes clogged with dirt.

We add that in full-flow filters there is also a bypass valve that regulates the oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. If, for some reason, the pressure rises, the valve opens, allowing the crude oil to pass through, but at the same time saving the motor from oil starvation. However, broken filters are not uncommon.

One of the reasons is the wrong choice of oil or elementary haste. Let's say, in early spring, the driver fills in summer grease, and frost hit at night and it thickened. In the morning, when you try to start the engine, such a thick substance begins to pass through the filter. The pressure is growing rapidly, so the filter cannot withstand it - at first it inflates it, and in severe cases the case completely cracks.

Very often, drivers are let down by a banal attempt to save money. They buy the filter that is cheaper - some Chinese “but name”. But in such spare parts, cheap components are used, such as a filter element and a bypass valve. During operation, the filter quickly becomes clogged, and the valve may not open fully, which will lead to oil starvation and “kill” the motor.

Let's not forget about counterfeit parts. Under a well-known brand, it is often unclear what is sold. Seeing an affordable price tag, people willingly buy such an “original”, often without even asking the question: “Why is it so cheap?”. But the answer lies on the surface - in the manufacture of fakes, the cheapest components are used. And the build quality of such parts is lame. Which leads to an increase in pressure and rupture of the filter housing.

In a word, do not buy into cheap parts. If you choose non-original consumables, do not be too lazy to look at the quality certificate and compare prices in different stores. Too cheap cost should alert.
