On the contrary, the break-in principle is simple: gradually adapt the bike until the mechanical parts get used to it. Only then will you be able to enjoy a powerful, reliable and durable machine.

As stated earlier, the task should be completed gradually and concerns the engine, tires, and brakes.

Engine

For a successful break-in, observe some conditions while driving:

Break-in location : This should be done in an urban environment.

velocity : the speed should be changed as much as possible. All reports must be requested. At the same time, switching from one gear to another should never be abrupt.

Acceleration : it should be limited and in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. It is not recommended to constantly move at a constant speed. However, it is strongly discouraged to increase the speed dramatically. The speed should vary in parallel with the engine speed.

If you bought a trail or road, follow these level rules:

  • 0 to 300 km: 4000 laps maximum
  • From 300 km to 600 km: maximum 5000 laps
  • From 600 km to 800 km: maximum 6000 laps
  • From 800 km to 1000 km: maximum 7000 laps

For a roadster or sports car, the first 300 kilometers should never exceed 4000 laps. And from 300 km it can be increased by 1000 laps for every 100 km of run. And this until you reach 1000 km.

Tire break-in

If the tires are new, running-in is mandatory. And since it’s almost impossible that you don’t have new wheels on a new bike, you also need to spend time running your tires. And this is true for used motorcycles with new tires.

Why do tires break? This is a security issue. The new tires are actually coated with lubricants to make them easier to manufacture and maintain. They can be dangerous on slippery roads. But the good news is that you can only get rid of it. after driving about 300 km.

Did you know ? Brakes that have never been used work differently than brakes that have broken down long ago. Since they are new, the brakes on a new bike may feel less flexible or even slightly rusted. Which is perfectly normal. But once the break-in is complete, you won't find better brakes!

You should start by driving slowly at a speed of about 70 km / h, during which you will slow down several times. So you roll and you slow down, you roll and you slow down. This should be done until the brakes are warm.

When you're done, let the brakes cool for a few minutes and then start over. This time the exercise consists of driving faster and braking hard. Or go faster and slow down sharply. For example, you can drive at 100 km / h and suddenly slow down to 20 km / h. You will have to do this several times.

Usually, if you do these two exercises at a distance of 100 to 150 kilometers, the brakes will work perfectly.
