How to open a locked car door without a key or Slim Jim

This has happened to everyone at one time or another, but if you work in an environment with cars, it can happen much more often.

I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to do is call the buyer to see if they have a spare key because I've locked the keys in the car. It's embarrassing and doesn't look very professional.

So, in this tutorial, I'm going to demonstrate two different ways to open a car door if you have your keys locked in it.

How to open a door with a rod

This first method demonstrates how to access from the top of the door to unlock the manual button, although this is even easier with electric locks.

Step 1: Pry off the edge of the door

You must have access to insert a tool to open the door. Care must be taken not to damage the painted surface. However, if you have this set of tools, then everything is simple. The wedge and plastic cap will help you achieve this without damaging the paint.

Step 2: Optional Airbag

If you have an airbag tool, it's easy to increase the clearance. This can be done without the airbag, but the airbag makes the job easier.

Step 3: Unlock the door with the Rod Tool

Once you have access, insert the rod through the gap. Reach out and press the unlock button. The button in the video is a manual button that you need to pull to open, but electric locks are even easier as you can just press the release switch. Another option is to roll out the window if the car is equipped with manual windows.

Step 4: Open the door

You have successfully gained access to the interior of the vehicle. Now let's go through the second method.

How to open a door with a plastic strip

If the car is equipped with a lock at the top of the door, then you can use the plastic bar that comes with the lock.

This method requires the door to be lifted up to pass through the plastic tape. However, this method requires less space to insert the strap.

Step 2: Open the door with the belt

Insert the belt and grasp the door lock. Once the strap hooks onto the lock as shown in the video, pull up and out to open the door.

Step 3: Open the door
